Finasteride/Propecia post surgery

AZ guy...I'm am who I am...I need no lesson on writing from you.....of that I am sure...I am also totally sure...after reading just one example of your writing...you are indeed like those you refer to as "everyone else" and that is quite frankly...creepy crawly....but quite ez for you I'm also sure...nes c'est pas...?

AZ Guy..Interesting that the warnings are still on the label....you would think the Pharma guys would have jumped on the first opportunity to remove it or maybe it just takes time or other risk mitigation motivations are in play...I haven't read them in some time but will also check that out...I will see what I can dig up from my research and post a link to the research...

Logoslidat: That is indeed the question. I could wave my hands around the answer based on what I am learning but the reality is I do not know the answer...the material impact of the answer in my case is how to interpret the first uPSA reading to take advantage of the early "adjuvant" head start on radiation vs. waiting for multiple measures where it is clear the increase is due to cancer.

AJMan, hopefully this stimulating discussion has provided you with some food for thought relative to your original question (albeit in a roundabout way). It's an interesting question, which is the reason I chimed in. Thank you for bringing it to the comment board.

Naturally it's very important to listen to our doctors, get second opinions and to use all that information when formulating our own conclusions and decisions about what's best for each of us. Pca should not be taken lightly. Before I was first diagnosed I downplayed it since I've always heard that Pca was a common male disease, slow growing and not that big a deal . It wasn't until later (per my own research) and after reading or listening to stories from Pca patients and their families when I realized what a devastating disease Pca is for so many men. Today when an acquaintance or someone in my circle diminishes Pca as a dangerous disease it makes me cringe.

You did mention that you're taking Finasteride for hair loss. I have a friend (w/o Pca) who takes the 1mg presentation (called "Propecia"?). It did interrupt his hair loss. I asked him for how long he had to take it. He said for a lifetime - otherwise the hair that the drug saved would fall out. While I was taking the 5mg presentation (for 4 years) I noted that hair on my legs and chest really thinned out remarkably but my facial hair (whiskers) thickness did not chance in any noticeable way. And the hair on my head did not thicken to any noticeable degree, nor did it fall out when I stopped the drug.

If I BCR I may ask my doc if he thinks taking Finasteride would slow progression - and if so - start taking it again w/ a prescription.
