As a nearly lifelong (so far) Florida resident, having weathered more hurricanes than I can remember, I can only second the good advice so far: just ride it out

Yes, the news media always report the scary damage that hurricanes can bring, and there always is some, but statistically speaking for the considerable majority of those in a typical hurricane's path, it's mainly a wind-and-rain event (although a pretty huge one, granted) but little real damage occurs.

Be ready to listen to your battery-powered radio for a while, maybe for 10-12 hours possibly, especially if the power goes out.

Follow any instructions you hear on the radio from the authorities. Often they really are life saving.

I'll bet you already have supplies at hand (bottled water, canned food, etc.) assuming the worst of the winds do come your way (usually the northeast quadrant), which they may not.

Hurricane winds can kick up a really huge surf, with mighty waves. But while it may be tempting to try and surf them, it's not a good idea. (But of course you know that).

"Hunker down" is usually the best advice.

But I'm sure you'll handle it nicely.
