Tenth Anniversary Of Prostate Removal Surgery

Today is the tenth anniversary of my prostate removal surgery. After surgery I was incontinent for 15 months and 100 percent ED. Through the years my PSA has always been undetectable and remains that way today. I’m fully continent now but I’m still 100 percent ED.

I’m pretty sure prostate cancer is behind me now. The only lingering side effect is the ED, which I don’t really care about. After all, I’m 79 years old now.

It turns out that prostate removal surgery was the beginning of the last 10 years in “medical hell”. Two years after prostate surgery I contracted non-Hodgkin lymphoma. After two years of chemo it seems that I defeated that as well.

In 2016 I had open heart surgery to repair regurgitation of the mitral valve. That surgery failed shortly afterwards. I had a second open heart surgery at Cleveland Clinic this past August.

At this point I’m finally feeling pretty good. I’m hopeful that I escaped “medical hell” at last.

I have a lot to be thankful for.

Compared to that other stuff you had to endure, the prostate surgery must seem like a walk in the park. I'm glad you are doing better now.

You've really been thru the mill Robert. Congratulations on conquering the prostate cancer, and defeating NHL along the way as well. Hopefully you have now ascended from medical hell. And it sounds like you've come out of it with a great attitude too. Good luck to you in the years ahead.

Robert - You've done extremely well, given what life has tossed your way.

I consider myself similarly blessed, having dealt with heart valve surgery, bypass surgery, pacemaker, RT for PCa, etc. I love it when my internist tells me "For a man of your age and medical history, you're in remarkably good health."

May you remain in great health for a long time.
