Correlation of MRI ADC value and Gleason Score

We had discussed this previously in my post about my husbands situation and his MRI results. I thought I would share this as some of you might find it interesting.

Wednesday is the big day for his biopsy results. I am keeping myself together and staying positive ( although secretly I am really nervous).

Thanks for posting. Makes sense that there is some correlation, but not extraordinarily high correlation. Pearson’s correlation coefficient, r, of about 0.5 is pretty moderate strength. This is due to the different strains of PC...there’s the commonly occurring variants which is described by the correlation, and the different behavior of the rare variants which causes the correlation to be not so strong.

Indeed interesting and thank you for posting. I recall asking my URO after the MRI if we could glean anything from the ADC which was reported (which nominally seemed to indicate a higher Gleason than the biopsy subsequently did) and he indicated that it was a bit hit or miss. It would be terrific if the MRI could eventually replace the biopsy as imaging gets even more precise over time.

Interesting article. As someone that has had a couple of biopsies, including a 30-core mapping biopsy, it would be great if an MRI could accurately show PCa. Still, even though it's not quite there, it's certainly "useful" as the study says.
