Fresh blood when Evacuating hemorroids or radiotherapy?

Do you have a history of hemorrhoids? My first thought is that if you have symptoms of hemorrhoids, the bleeding is slight and stops as the hemorrhoids reduce, and doesn't recur, you have some evidence. Being scoped would answer the question, I believe.

Been there, done that. This is what finally pushed me to my first ever colonoscopy at age 71. Funny how a couple of drops of blood in the toilet bowl brings up images of whatever slasher movie you've seen recently. I had that, as well as having my RO exclaim "We've got blood!" after my last DRE.

My Gastro-doc recommended the colonoscopy to see what's up. (Pun really intended. . . ) The worst parts were the anticipation and the prep. The whole thing which, in my case, also included endoscopy for other reasons, was a big non-issue. They found a lot of "things" to talk about, but nothing needing any more than a couple of zaps with the laser and "See you again in a few years."

Do yourself a favor and get it checked out. Whatever it is, you will be better off knowing what's going on. Odds are that it is nothing serious.

My first radiation oncologist (2013) asked if I had hemorrhoids, I said I did (Stevedore and Longshoreman for a few years). She asked if they bled, I said yeah. She advised me that after radiation treatment they would get worse and so would the bleeding. She was right on both counts. Also proscribed a 1 hour nap every day. (It was 1/2 hour at the time). I have cut back to 45 minutes.

Tom - likely you tore something while straining. The other symptoms you describe are worth a call to the doctor - could be something else. Generally you don't lose that much blood from the bowels.
