Seems to me you need to get the ball rolling on SRT NOW. I would try to contact an RO to explain your situation and get a Lupron shot lined up to stop the cancer progression. If, in fact, your Uro has seen your PSA and is letting it go until July - well that's just unconscionable.

I think tomorrow I will approach my GP (who provided me with the original referral to the surgeon) and see if she can set up something with an RO.

And while I am here I will add the following observation, for what it may be worth:

I have long been very health-conscious and it has worked out well for me: zero prescription medications at age 78, alhough it looks like that may be about to change. But, as part of my health-consciousness, starting many years ago, I checked out the risk factor tables for many diseases and figured that, since I had none of the risk factors for prostate cancer, I needn't worry too much about getting it. Then at age 74 I found I had it! So I have been puzzled about what caused mine. (Besides the fact that age is a factor, and that autopsy studies in the US of people whose cause of death had nothing at all to do with prostate issues, found that 60% of those in their 70s had prostate cancer at time of death. And higher rates for those in their 80s and 90s).

However, recently I may have discovered the reason for mine, and it probably applies to others. I found a paper reporting on data showing that people who have had APPENDICITIS have double the risk for prostate cancer. I had a ruptured appendix 50 years ago which entailed two surgeries. Then I came across another study which found a huge 14 'hazard ratio' for men who have had HIP surgery (it seems hazard ratios always come out much much higher than measures of relative risk, so they are exaggerated). I haven't had hip surgery, but I did have major surgery on my femur in 1980 after breaking it into five pieces. That entailed drilling a hole in the top of my femur bone right down the middle of it, right by the hip joint, inserting a rod through the hole and assembing the pieces of the bone around it, and securing it all with a few strands of copper wire.

It took me a while to figure out how those surgeries could be connected to prostate cancer. Then suddenly it dawned on me: EXPOSURE TO X-RAYS in the pelvic region. After the femur operation they would regularly cart me off to the X-ray room and take pictures from five different directions. And do the same again a couple of days later. And a couple of days later again .......

I doubt this information can affect anything at this stage. But it may be appropriate for anyone who has had significant X-ray exposure in the pelvic region to be especially conscientious about getting regular PSA tests. And alerting their doctors to the possibility that any rise in their PSA above 2 may, because of their exposure, deserve more careful than average assessment.

Medical Oncologist (MO). Regular oncologists (MO) manage cancer, treat with chemo, etc. and refer to RO and surgeons at the appropriate time. Prostate cancer is a little different in the urologist usually is the starting point, skin cancer would be similar with dermatologists. There are MO’s that specialize in PCa as well as some that specialize in urinary cancers.
