Both Zytiga and Xtandi didn’t work for me. Both dropped my PSA a couple of points but it went right back up. PSA was 7.5 a couple of weeks ago after rising over 1.0 for 2 months in a row My oncologist wanted to give it another month then put me on chemo (unless my PSA decides to go down).
My question is, what’s it like being on chemo (I assume Taxotere but, are there other options?)

Hello, Biker 911 ~~~
We've got a playbook all written up, for every member here who is considering chemotherapy treatments, or getting started ...
All you do is go to the search icon at the top of your screen, next to the magnifying glass icon, and type in this thread title, as follows:
"TAXOTERE SIDE EFFECTS"
Click on it, print it off if you wish, and start reading ...
What you will like about
it is that members here worked TOGETHER, to put together first-hand, factual "down in the trenches" experiences, to help others.
It was started by member Madeline Smith, and really took off from there.
It's truly written in "one brother to another brother" style.
Others here nicknamed it the chemo "playbook" ...
Best of all, it truly includes ways to navigate treatments, answers worrisome questions, AND suggests techniques to mitigate side effects.
Check it out, and new additions to that thread are welcomed!
Hope this helps,
Cyclone - # Iowa State University

:
TAXOTERE was first FDA approved to combat prostate cancer in 2004. Taxotere was originally derived from specific cytotoxic compounds discovered in the bark of California yew trees.

Cyclone... You can almost taste the yew! (And then you can’t taste nothing).

Honestly, during the infusions, my oncologist and chemotherapy nurses handed me cups of finely chipped ice ---- you chew on the ice during the infusion, and it can potentially preserve your sense of taste.
Thankfully, my sense of taste stayed intact!
"Another cup of ice chips, please!"
A friend of mine, going through TAXOTERE treatments, forgot to ask for chipped ice for one of his treatments ~ couple of weeks later, he went out for Mexican food, and realized he had temporarily lost his sense of taste.
My lesson learned? Ice chips!
Can't hurt, might help ~ ask for the cups of ice chips during the infusions!
Easy, breezy tip from my oncologist,
