Milepost for "The Natural"

Eight years ago, in November 2012, at age 57, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 advanced metastatic prostate cancer. Four bone mets. Devastating diagnosis. Three to five years life expectancy left. Then I learned new words, new phrases, new insights. I learned that for others, if they can detect it early, confined PC can be treated and well over 98+% of those patients survive, and those men eventually die of something else.

I learned advanced PC is a whole different ballgame where the odds are stacked against us. I learned what Doctors could do with "palliative treatment". I watched friends pass away, and heard stories of journeys here that ended, very sadly. For myself, the journey so far has been better than for most PCa patients, even amazing. In 2014, started on Zytiga, PSA down to undetectable shortly after that and continuing for six years now, with a <0.01 PSA. Oh, but the Docs says those mets are simply "dormant" ready to awaken again. I claim ahead of time my December PSA test will again be <0.01.

After all this time, I still have a lot to learn. Learning about new terms, new drugs, new treatments. But the hardest part is learning to live my life after that.

I like the line Glen Close says to Roy Hobbs in (The Natural)- " We have two lives, the life we learn with, and the life we live after that...Suffering is what brings us towards happiness. It teaches us to want to do the right thing."

So for now, I'll be trying to do te right things, like giving to others, and loving those close to me, and appreciating them even more each day .Love ya'll and Keep the Faith!

Hope the earthquakes are done with the China Lake area. Those two were real "rattlers". Btw, was posted at New Orleans NAS years ago. Missed Katrina, though. Hope your new job works out well. Sometimes wish I could be back in that life, but got tired of being away from family. Really great people to be around, though.
