Speaking of varying opinions and/or arterial calcium scores: about
a year(or maybe less) after my RP- so maybe 6 years ago- my primary care doc- leans towards veganism- was concerned about
my high total and LDL, and not high enough HDL, and wanted me on statins. My numbers had worsened since he checked them before my RP. But, he is a bit more on the natural side than most MDs( or he might be a DO, I'd have to check), so he wanted to confirm my need with a Calcium Scoring scan. He said "any other doctor would have you on statins already". He told me he had a guy in just a few week earlier exactly like me: same numbers, age, weight. He had the Calcium scan done and a week later he was either getting bypass or stents, something like that. But then he said: but, he also had a strong family history. And maybe some minor symptoms. And I reminded him that I not only had no family history, but my TGLs and BP were on the low side, and I had zero symptoms hiking briskly up steep hills with a pack. But, he wanted me to have the test, and I finally did. I came back at zero, I think bad a score of 100 to 300 means moderate plaque deposits. So, he did not push for statins any more, though he still recommended I work to improve my numbers. Though from what I read, improving my numbers a lot would not really do much to lower my risk when I already have a zero calcium score. However, I probably should have them checked, hoping they will have improved( except the TGLs, which were already pretty good), since, due to BP concerns, some recent IF and some low carb eating has removed some the excess weight and lowered the BP. So I am curious to see how it has affected the blood work, if at all.
