Great info and link. I will definitely try that as my Anthem RX with Medicare quoted me $951 for my initial prescription refill this year. Still waiting for "Prior Authorization" to go thru. What is the Poverty level these days. I am very close to 400% of that (or 4 times that), so might not qualify, but apparently my RX cost will go down to a very low amount when I reach that catastrophic coverage level 3. I also have United Healthcare , but they said I need to go to Medicare RX coverage first. I am still trying to figure thongs(er..THINGS) out since I am over 65. (Freudian brain fog mispelling )

My wife ran the Medicare/Insurance Company drug gauntlet last year for Ibrance, the TV breast cancer drug by Pfizer. There was absolutely no way I thought we would qualify for any benefits. The pharmacy people at the university said they would submit to Pfizer and appeal if declined. They have seen many people get relief that had better financial situations than us. We said go for it and gave them the financial info they asked for. Our claim was denied and they appealed it. Pfizer contacted us directly and ask for a copy of the first page of our last tax return and W-2’s of which there was only a small one for my wife.

While this was going on, she got the first month for free and we paid $2,850 (25%) for the next month. We did not pay again to date after she was approved. The drugs are shipped monthly directly by Pfizer to us. We are in the reapplication process currently.

The point of this is to suggest working the system and appeal any denials. Medicare is different from regular insurance and you have to get relief from the manufacturer as far as I can tell. From these applications, it appears that they mainly look at earned income like wages, pensions, and social security. They never asked how much money we had or seemed to care that I cashed in a IRA for taxable income.
