Walsh's book--is it even relevant

Hi Mel. Yes, it's still a good book, but the newly diagnosed would want to get the revised 4th (2018) edition.

Up-to-date books are good for getting the lay of the land, anatomy, terminology specific to PCa, and an overview of treatment pros and cons. Of course no book will remain that up-to-date soon after its publication, and many books have their own take or slant on all things prostate

Journal articles are continually re-evaluating the data of the past, and trying out new diagnostic and treatment regimes. Pubmed or Google Scholar are great tools for those weighing different paths and learning the nuances of specific treatments.

Some medical associations maintain online treatment guidelines thst are periodically revised. These are the algorithms that a physician is likely to consult for SOC.

I got the book from local library when first diagnosed. Due to the anxiety of the diagnosis I did find the book useful and thought it added to the anxiety.

I think its still relevant, but now, rather than being the bible of prostate cancer, as i think it was, it should be read along with books like Invasion of the Prostate Snaters by Mark Scholz, or his other book, which i cant recall the name.
This would give the reader a balanced point of view, with Walsh being a surgeon.

I think it is relevant, similar to Djin's viewpoint: It gives the reader a starting point. Now, it also gives the reader the idea that surgery is the starting point for all cases...and I suspect for many men, if they read anything at all, would read it and schedule surgery. We can't help that.

A deeper question really is--is printed guidance material on ANY subject still 'relevant' today?

Coincidentally, I had an e-mail today saying that you can now pre-order the updated version of Invasion of the Prostate Snatchers.
