Even if you are not a car racing, as in NASCAR, fan, you may still have heard of Jeff Gordon, who is one of the more famous participants in that activity.
Well, it seems that he has also created a foundation to assist children with cancer, the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation:
https://www.jeffgordonchildrensfoundation.org/And as part of the fundraising efforts on behalf of this organization, he has adopted a rather unique approach toward achieving a foundation end, fundraising.
By calling up the above website, one immediately sees the headline "Corvette for a cure," that is, his organization is selling what amounts to raffle tickets for a $93,000 Corvette car, according to the video, and, we are told, over the past 15 years this approach has raised eleven million dollars for the charity.
It's a flashy website and video, which of course features the Corvette racing around, sort of what one might expect from a NASCAR star's site, but I'm posting about
it because of its unique fundraising approach: contribute to the charity and maybe win a flashy supercar.
Sort of like playing the lottery, I guess, but for a worthy cause.
(BTW, moderators: what exactly is the forum policy on threads such as this one, which may be in a sort of a gray area: not advocating for a particular charity, but sort of in effect advertising it by talking about
it? OTOH, since it seems to be a reputable cancer charity, should we not be able to talk about
it? Clarification welcome).
