alephnul - I have BCBS and it is not the insurance company that makes the difference. Group plans can have much better drug coverage since it easy to negotiate and popular with the negotiators who are covered under the same plan.
Make sure you see if the university has a Medicare plan for retirees when you get around the 65 age. My wife's school district had a retiree plan which happens to be a BCBS Advantage plan that is ok but the drug plan was great and had fixed co-pays for all drug tiers. As an individual, you can not get that coverage and get stuck with the 25% co-pay of the real expensive drugs. (which drops to 5% after $7,000+ in drug cost)
