Don't Start Aspirin Regimen to Prevent Heart Attack

I stopped reading when I got to that point. 😐

I have been taking a 81 mg "baby aspirin" every night for more than twenty years. Both my cardiologist and PCP endorse it. My blood pressure is within normal limits and my semi-annual electrocardiograms are, too.

I learned many years ago not to tamper with success unless (in medical matters) a competent physician (whom I trust) counsels me to change. I will move forward, accordingly.

The daily baby aspirin conflict has been going on for some years now. I have been taking for quite a while and do not remember when and why I started, father's heart history possibly. My PCP and cardiologist both take the position that I have been taking for a long time without issue so no reason to stop now with the daily baby aspirin. Both at times have discussed the current medical conflict and have mixed feelings about it other than they would not recommend to healthy men without a reason, not preventative. In the past, they would not object if someone wanted to take daily baby aspirin either so hard to know what their current thoughts are after this announcement.

What about taking aspirin with milk? Is dairy bad for us? How about eggs? Bacon? L'chaim!!

Just one mans opinion..... this is the same U.S. Preventive Services Task Force that recommended against routine PSA screening. And Routine Mammography. If we listened to them, both my wirfe and i would probably be dead.
I'll discuss with my Cardiologist next time i see him, but doubt i will go off the baby aspirin i've been on for 15 years. He wouldn't even let me go off it for 5 days before my colonoscopu

I've been on aspirin for the last 20 years for a heart condition. No side effects. It hasn't killed me. It thins my blood and prevents clotting. No doctor has even told me to stop taking aspirin. I would continue to take it even if one did. I remember at one time when they told us PSA testing wasn't necessary - even though that's what led to the discovery of my Pca and it very well may have prolonged my life. Now that PSA medical 'opinion' has largely been reversed. I never follow these out-of-the-blue medical findings. I'll stand fast until the smoke clears. But never thought aspirin would become our enemy. lol. Crazy world.

Steve, Thanks for bringing this PCa Off-Topic up. I think it's an important one for PCa patients because we're all of an age to weigh in on this topic. There are some clear guidelines for those who have had a heart attack or have heart disease taking aspirin to prevent a heart attack. I've read A LOT in medical literature (not the popular press) about this and the pros and cons. I've even contacted an expert on the subject at Cleveland Clinic Heart Institute. As someone suggested, this should be discussed with one's physician or, better yet, a cardiologist to sort out an individual recommendation.

For purposes of full disclosure, at age 73 I take a daily baby aspirin due to coronary artery disease. I also follow the Healthy 7 Habits recommended by the American Heart Association and have decided, based on my doctor's advice, to take a statin to lower my LDL cholesterol below <70 mg/dL . I may still have a heart attack, but the chances are excellent that I'll survive it.

Those were my thoughts exactly. The timing seemed rather amazing. It seemed to be very similar to the dangers that suddenly appeared when at least 2 other dirt cheap and widely used medications- having previously been given in billions of doses all over the world- were said to be possibly helpful for Covid. Suddenly the danger of these drugs- at least one of which was on the WHO's list of essential drugs- was a big concern. Of course, I could be totally wrong, it could all be coincidence. But I don't see how any one could help but notice the timing in multiple cases.

I’ve been taking daily aspirin since 1985. The 325mg for twenty years, and the 81mg the past fifteen years.

Not going to stop. I recall reading that aspirin has an long term inhibiting effect on low risk PCa. Certainly, my experience would validate that.

Boy, I sure hope they don't discover that aspirin cures covid. They'll change the name, jack the price up by 500,000% and make it a prescription-only product. I just want it to thin my blood for a heart condition.
