I've been posting elsewhere but the thread has gotten long.
I had the Ct Scan and simulation a couple of weeks ago. I am claustrophobic so was not too happy about
it but I got by okay (used a mild sedative without telling them so I'd not have to bring a person along to take me home, I used public transit anyway so no real need)
So the real radiation starts Thursday then Monday, then Thursday-Monday, Thursday again making it five sessions over a three week period.
My only worry is urinary retention because I had that after 4 sessions of IMRT however, I've had Greenlight laser since then and am voiding quite well. Before I started IMRT It was suggested I have a TURP or Greenlight but for some reason I did not. I do not mind a mild case of retention but just fear having to wear a cath for life.
Otherwise, I'm quite calm and ready to get this done.

Was thinking of you, knowing you had treatments coming up!
You mentioned that holiday party you have in mind for December.
You will thank yourself a thousand times, getting these treatments "knocked out" before the NEW YEAR!
We're here to support you!
Keep facing forward! You've got this!

Hang in there, Glen. I'm sure you will do just fine. The worst is behind you. For me, the worst was the fiducial implant, which in my case was done with no sedation. Just some topical lidocaine gel. Ugh!
If you are worried about
urinary retention, just ask the RO to prescribe some FloMax or Rapaflow to take for a couple of weeks. Many of the RO's routinely offer this.
Yes, there may be some urinary or intestinal discomfort. I had both. Both resolved on their own. My only longer-term issue is some radiation proctitis resulting in some rectal bleeding about
5 years after treatment. In my case, my RO and my gastro believe that I am more likely than average to have this complication due to my history of irritable bowel stuff. If you don't have IBS (or other such long term issues), you probably will not have the side effects I did. Even in my case, treatment was simple and effective.
Go for it! We'll be here when you come out. . .

Glen, good luck. Hopefully it will go well and you will be well on your way to being cured and putting this in the rear view.

Thank you all for the good luck's and information. I'm upstate at my other place with my wife as we await our wood floors being finished. Hope the contractor is done by the time I'm finished (4:20pm) I assume the floor will be done as he started Monday morning.
As with everything, I deal with it one day at a time. Actually I'm only stressed over whether the floors will be done otherwise I'll have to take the Metro North train back upstate after radiation

Focus on that upcoming holiday gathering you mentioned, when the renovations are complete!
I remember you mentioned your wife was going to play the Steinway piano at the event --- with holiday caroling --- and a night of Beethoven.
Focus on those upcoming events & that will carry you through treatments!
Each treatment finished, is a huge step FORWARD!

Yes Cyclone that's why we're rushing to get the floors done.
We are close to finished or at least to be able to show off 90 % of the apartment. Just a new bathroom mirror, drapes some new bedroom stuff and carpet and it's done
My wife is a perfectionist so it's been dragging up until now.
Anyway, I have my fleet enemas ready and I'm catching the 1pm train tomorrow.

Well it was mostly a good treatment however I screwed up the water amount I was supposed to drink.
I voided on the train ride down and forgot about
the full bladder thing. So I had to sit in a very painful position for a long time as I drank more water. They played some lovely opera arias including my favorite " The pearl fisher duet "
So next time -Water!!
Besides the pain due to the extra wait time which was about
half hour extra.
So one down and four to go.
Yea!

BTW I thank you all for the information and support here. I really feel a fondness for all even though we all may be miles apart in distance, politics, age and social station.

Yeah! You are 20% done now!
Yes --- the water consumption! You are now mastering the "water game" --- a protective step.
My radiation technicians saved the last afternoon appointment of the day for me --- so while teaching my last classes of the day, I was consuming the right amounts of water towards the end of the school day --- the dismissal bell would ring --- I quickly changed into track pants, tennis shoes, and t-shirt, and drove to the treatment center in the nick of time --- full bladder --- for that last treatment of the day.
Forty-five treatments --- nine weeks of the school year --- but week by week, I knocked out those treatments, one by one by one.
The technicians can ALWAYS advise you, if you need to drink a bit more water --- or if you need to "empty the tank" a little bit. No worries! So --- let this put your mind at ease!
I brought a gym bag to school --- because if I showed up at the treatment center in track pants (no zippers allowed for radiation) and t-shirt, then I didn't have to put on that pesky hospital gown 45 different times!
Thankful to hear your update! All in all --- a very good day!
With my best,

Thank you Cyclone.
All we wear are t shirt and socks. One gown
open back and the other
open front.
I'm not modest at all so when it all gets pushed aside. No worries!
All in all the session was no big deal.
I was surprised to see my RO come into the room. Usually it's just the tech's who by the way are wonderful folk.

Hello Paxton I read your post again. I was looking at the side effects you wrote about
.
Yesterday which was 3 days after my first dosing, I began to have urgency and it got worse. Today I went to the Train station to pick up my wife (we are going to see Frankie Valli in concert in Kingston NY) I could not hold it and had to void in the parking lot. (No one was around today being Sunday-lucky as it's usually crowded)
I guess I'm wondering if this urgency and mild irritation is from one session?
I have been prone to UTI's so it is possible it is due to a urinary tract infection as the effects are exactly the same.
Since my main fear is retention, I can deal with leakage etc. I have Depend's and know where every bathroom is in an 80 mile radius.
BTW the wood floors came out looking great!
Bottom line is I can deal with it but just curious if side effects can begin so soon after dose number one.

2nd treatment done and it was not bad. Same pain issue with lying on my back. Played Frankie Valli and 4 season,s music. At the last minute we found out the concert we had tickets for was rescheduled until March 6th
They took a urine sample to rule out infection and doctor Deutsch had me empty out after the session. I retained some urine but he's not too concerned. He did say if my urgency and mild retention persists he may prescribe steroids. But 20 minutes later i rushed back to the clinic and emptied out and had a forceful stream. No middle of the night urinating. I Am however up early and have mild irritation and slight burning and urgency.
I'll await the urine sample result

Glen, my urinary and bowel discomfort stayed with me for a couple of weeks, but it was just an annoyance. I had no issues with retention, and the discomfort was only during the voiding process. I just toughed it out, I guess.
One "silly" trick I used to keep track of my progress toward completing my SBRT treatment was to set all of the Fleet enema bottles I would need on the bathroom shelf. Each treatment day, after using the required bottle of stuff, I tossed that empty into the trash. I could "see" how many treatments remained by the number of unused Fleet bottles on the shelf. I very graphic reminder that "this, too, shall pass."

Thanks Paxton and Halbert
Funny but I do have my Fleet bottles lined up and am down to 3
My urine was not good. No bacteria but protein and s couple of other indications were abnormal
Protein was 100 plus my left kidney area has been achy.
I'm diabetic and my A1c went up to 7.2 from 6.5
I'm addicted to candy. I eat healthy and not a lot but night time I eat massive amounts of candy.
I must wean off. I am kinda ashamed about
it.

Hello, TheSwan ---
I know with Halloween around the corner, there is candy EVERYWHERE!
That being said ---- how about
I join in with you on a "candy free week" from November 1 through November 7? Just one week, and then if you want to go for yet another week, let me know.
Sometimes, it helps to set a small goal & have a compadre join in with you ...
Just in case this helps ... do you want to try a "candy free week" starting November 1st?
Here to encourage you ---

Sounds good Cyclone. I think this was the straw that has broken my rationalization back. I'm diabetic and have been ignoring the facts.
I will start to taper today.

Cyclone, OK...I'm in also (or out -- when it comes to candy). I'll accept the candy-free challenge. Let's give Glen the encouragement he needs.

I'm in too. I don't really eat candy, but what the heck. I'm with y'all.
Edit: Crap! I forgot about
chocolate chip mint ice cream. That will be my sacrifice.

Thank you mattam.
On another subject my urgency issue was a ball and chain today. I had to stay close to the apartment. I think I'm feeling mild improvement. I hope it passes.
