OT, but a great example of a way the web can help Ukrainian refugees in the U.S.

Something I read yesterday about the way a certain web facility, available to everyone, can greatly assist Ukrainian refugee families coming to the U.S. to stay temporarily with American host families.

A frequent problem with this arrangement is the language barrier, when the arriving Ukrainian family doesn't speak English and the American family doesn't speak Ukrainian.

What I read is how the web language translators, such as Google Translator or Bing Translator, can be put to good use to create communication in that circumstance. And it's easily done

Imagine the following. You are seated in front of your monitor along with your guest Ukrainian family, and you access one of the translators, say Google Translator.

Type google translator in your search engine. Enter

When there, scroll down and choose Ukrainian on right

Click on Keyboard icon (lower right) and type in English what you want to say to your guest family. It is then automatically translated immediately on screen for them to read.

Try these phrases:

Welcome to America
What is your name
What would you like for dinner

One should be able to get a good, in-depth back-and-forth conversation going with one's guests, without ever leaving the workstation!

It's still amazing what the web can do, and how helpful it can be in difficult circumstances!
