Weird Swelling on Day 5

I've had quite a bit of scrotal swelling going on. Well, today I was taking a shower and not only do I have scrotal swelling, but the skin on the bottom of my penis has developed a swelling and there's a fairly large swollen nodule behind the frenulum. It's not causing any pain, but this worries me. Is this sort of strange swelling expected following a RALP?

az: I would strongly suggest you call your surgeon in the morning. The scrotal swelling is more or less expected, but the other thing could be related to the catheter in some way...and needs to be evaluated by an expert.

Have you been applying triple antiobiotic ointment to the catheter where it comes out to both lubricate and prevent infection?

Thanks, Halbert. I have been using the ointment. I just called the surgeon's office and, miraculously, he was immediately available and on call. Thankfully, this is normal. It looks scary, though. He said it's the result of fluids settling, and they need somewhere to go. He said it's also possible that the swelling could become large enough that the penis can "disappear" temporarily (yeesh). I'll leave this in the forum in case anyone else here experiences this sort of swelling and freaks out on a Sunday.

While it pains me to share this, most of us who have had RP lose sight of the little guy pretty quickly. Removing a large chunk of the urethra pulls the remainder into the resulting gap. Lymph node damage gives us the gift of a large scrotum, as I recently mentioned in another thread. I now look like I am hung like a horse, but it is all show and no go.

'Digging for the acorn' when you gotta pee, sudden - sometimes uncontrollable - 'urge to urinate' and a profound lack of directional control are also quite common here. We cope. smile

Regarding post-RALP size, I just got back from Italy and I did visit Florence and stood under the famous statue of David. For such an icon, he really doesn’t have much to brag about in that department so, by comparison, I don’t worry about it.
