The link below leads to a page on the Medicare website that provides a tool that enables the user to learn how Medicare has evaluated many of the providers/agencies it has worked with. It also offers the means to compare two or more of them side-by-side onscreen on basic performance measures.
From the "about
this tool" tab on the page:
"We've combined our 8 original provider compare sites, giving you one place to start finding any type of care you need. New features include updated maps, new filters that help you identify the providers right for you, and a clean, consistent design that makes it easier to compare providers and find the information that's most important to you."And from the page's "Welcome" tab:
"You can use this tool to find and compare different types of Medicare providers (like physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, and others)."Those Medicare providers searchable (click on the one on the left side of the screen that you wish to search) are:
Doctors & clinicians
Hospitals
Nursing homes including rehab services
Home health services
Hospice care
Inpatient rehabilitation facilities
Long-term care hospitals
Dialysis facilities
Medical equipment & suppliers
Clicking on one of the above entities (which display on left side of the page when it's accessed) leads to a search screen. On that screen one can search by
location, name or type of entity, which then retrieves persons and/or agencies that match the query, along with Medicare's one-to-five star rating of them (although not in all cases). Those star ratings are according to "overall star rating" and "patient survey rating." It even provides city maps indicating the
location of the entitles' practices.
Then, if one wishes to do a side-by-side comparison of any two or more of the entities now displaying, just click on the "compare" buttons (which highlights them) to the right of each name, and then click on the "compare" button at upper right.
This displays a side-by-side comparison of the entities that were selected, for easy comparison of them and the evaluations Medicare gives for their services.
And of course since Medicare is the sponsor of this tool, one can assume with reasonable confidence that the search results provided are reliable.
Curiously, the page does not provide one-to-five star ratings for individual physicians (the "overall star rating" and "patient survey rating"), and does so for some of the agencies, but not all.
Do access the Medicare page linked above and try out searching and/or comparing entities (individuals or agencies) in any of the above-mentioned categories, either in your area, or anywhere, to see facts about
them, Medicare's ratings of them, and how they compare with each other.
