Lupron - Monthly shot vs every 3 months

My medical oncologist said I can get Lupron in a monthly shot or once every 3 month shot. She said the monthly shot might reduce some side effects. Has anyone done it both ways for comparison? Is it enough difference to do them monthly?

No experience but I would probably go for a monthly shot to see how it goes and go from there. Does this mean you are going for radiation soon?

I was getting mine for years once a month....Just started in Jan once every six months...love it... same side effects, no energy, hot flashes (not bad).

When I was on long term ADT we used the 6 month shots for convenience. The side effects are from the castrate levels of testosterone, which will remain low throughout, not the frequency of the shot. Cost is less on the longer term as you pay a doc visit and injection charge each time you are jabbed. So I had 6 six month shots versus 36 monthly shots. Worked for me.

It's wise to start off with a monthly dose to see if there are no unusual side effects. Personally, I would change to the 3-month dose if all is OK. Insurance coverage and cost to the patient are factors to consider.

Nice, you should be feeling better now that treatment is getting underway. it was a mental watershed moment for me once decisions were made and progress was again being made.

I did monthly shots since it gave me the option to bail early if I thought the SEs were too bad. Also, the way my doc's office was set up, it gave me the ability to have a discussion with my oncologist each month, which I found helpful. All in all, I did 18 one-month shots. I can't tell if it gave me fewer SEs (I sure had loads of hot flashes), but I was happy with how it all played out.
