So a popular claims processor in the healthcare space called Change healthcare was hacked a few months ago (ransomware attack).
So today everyone in my household received a data breach notice and the breach was severe. From the notice the following data was stolen.
“- health insurance data (health plans/policies, member group ifs, medicare payor id numbers)
- Health data (doctors, diagnoses, medications, test results, images, care, treatments)
- Payment data (account numbers, payment cards, financial and banking, balance info)
- Other (SSN, drivers license numbers, other ID numbers)”
Getting a hold of a credit card number is one thing but medical info is quite another.
It is unsettling. What if I am looking for a new job and illicit websites spring up that allow employers to search my medical records based on this data? Buying life insurance? Same thing.
Unlike a credit card you cannot turn this off.
