Lialda and flare up?

I was switched from 9 Asacol daily to 2 Lialda a day a few weeks ago.  I read in previous threads that a few people were on it.  My doc said it was just like Asacol only i take less pills.  And from what i read from others comments it didn't seem like everyone was told that.  So i wanted to know a little more of what other people were told or read about it.  I only did a few basic things to look it up, i have not had the time to really look into it yet.

I am also starting a flare i think.  When i went to the doc i was seeing blood only in a few stolls during the week, and now it seems like a daily thing and some urgency is coming back as well.  The doc said its prob just a hemorid.  but i don't feel like it is, thats how my UC went un treated for about 5 months (diffrent doc) but i have a colonoscapy to check things out on Thursday next week so i guess nothing i can really do until then.  Remicade is the next step if i need it..

And i thought things were going so well!! i was feeling great.. starting to try and work of those roid pounds and loosing the moon face. But now i'm moody again (everytime i see blood or look in a mirror i get so disscoraged) I just don't know what to do.  (there needs to be a spell check on this, sorry my spelling is not the greatest)

I started out with my Dr giving 1 Lialda a day and then because I was flaring so badly, he gave me 4 pills a day.  It is the same formulation as asacol, mesalamine.  The Lialda isn't really working for me though (asacol didn't either) so I am on Remicade now.  I still take 2 Lialda a day now because my Dr. says it can help prevent colon cancer.  Hope this helps.  I guess you'll know more about what's going on with you after your colonoscopy!  Maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject will chime in!

I was taking 4 Lialda a day for a while. I think it was causing diarrhea. It sure wasn't helping.

I started on 2 Lialda for 4 weeks and thought things were a tiny bit better so my doctor increased my dose to 4 Lialda. He also increased my 6MP from 50mg to 75mg (after 15 weeks of no improvement in my flare on 50 mg). Within 3 days I was only having 2-3 BMs. That was about a week ago. Now I am having 1-2 BMs a day all formed and only tiny spots of blood on the pooh. I am VERY encouraged and hopeful that my flare may finally be coming to an end!! I think it was the Lialda because I was figuring that the increase in 6MP would need time to kick in just like when you start 6MP. I am going to do a Prometheus test in 2 weeks to make sure everything is ok with the 75mg dose of 6MP.

Had the same issue going from Asacol to Lialda...I up'd the Lialda to 4 per day and my rowasa's to every night for a week or so and now I'm down to 3 lialda and rowasa evry other night.

I am going through a flare at the current time and my current doctor placed me on 4 Lialda per day. I was on remission for almost 7 years with Asulfidine. I have gone via the Prednisone and have moved to the 6-mp while still on the Lialda. Dr. says that the Lialda doesn't always get you into remission but it works once in remission.

To be honest I am not a big fan Lialda because it does not seem to be doing it's job. That doesn't mean that it will not work for you.

I tried Lialda, what a nightmare! I was in a flare...it went straight downhill from there. Ended up in emergency thought I was having a heart attack. Turns out I was really dehydrated from losing so much blood and fluids.

Lialda didn't work for me. I was taking 4 a day. It did give me the most horrendous gas I have ever had! But for other folks, it seems to work fine.

Just goes to show you how each one of us is so different.
