Hi..am pamela 22..diagnosed with uc since june 08. i have been on asacol since then..the problem is that i have never felt good even 1 day since i take that..i feel even worse..my cramping got worse..n i get extreme ab pain..plus am now having joint pain all over (am off work since 7 weeks due to that)..

cd it b an allergy to asacol?can som1 b intolerant to sascol?am so confused!i told my doc who told me to continue bcz asacol is the best!but i feel so baaad with it

I have joint pain every time I have a flare.  I almost always know when I am going to start flaring because, I get horrible lower back pain which just never seems to go away.  This is usually a few weeks before.  I also ache horribly in my knees and hips.  Then the mucas starts and then.....I am heading to the doctor again.

I have been on Asocol for 10 years.  For me, I don't think the joint pain is from the Asocol, just part of having this disease.  I have been fortunate that I don't seem to have any side effects from the Asocol.  However, I think I am reacting somewhat to the Rowasa.  This makes me curious because I think they are the same type of medication, just goes in the other end.  But, I seem to just feel fluish all the time since starting back on the Rowasa.

I would definately talk to your doctor though!  Good luck.  :)

Some minority of us react to asacol and other mesalamines with increased cramping, diarrhea and nausea. Within two weeks of starting Asacol I had to stop it because I was so much worse. My doctor put me on Colazal and I tolerate it well. I know there are several of us here who can't take Asacol but do well on Colazal. I'd suggest you talk to your doctor again - or seek a second opinion if he won't listen to you.

Yeah judilyn i think am reacting very badly to asacol. n i am going to talk to my doctor today abt it.

i talked to my doc. he doesnt want to chane the asacol! am so upset. i tel him that i dont feel well with it. n he doesnt care. can i change to another pill myself?i wana try colazal or lialda

I do fine w/ asacol - funny how different we all are. I have joint pain - has settled down a bit because my flare isn't at it's height right now. But the joint pain is part of this ugly disease.

No, you can't switch on your own but you can switch doctors. If this doctor is not going to listen to you then by all means find one that will.

Hi..how many asacol are you on?

You should, however, discuss with him for you to also be on rectal meds of some kind....

wat r rectal meds?never heard of them!

They're either retention enemas, foam enemas, steroid or 5-ASA (like ASacol) as well as supposiories in either steroid or 5-ASA.

Consider UC starts at the rectum....that's why you should/need to be on rectal meds.

It could be that you're not on enough meds treating both ends...not that you're sensitive to 5ASA meds.
