2nd Colonoscopy results / Liver

So I went in for my 2nd colonoscopy (in 3 months) this morning...this time around it was a cake, i wasnt sweating it at all...the only thing that sucked about it was the prep (2 bottles of Miralax!!!)...

So the results of the procedure thus far are that my doc said the inflamation has gone down tremendously...this is good seeing that he told me my colon looked like a beef patty a week earlier!!  He wants me to continue on the Asacol for now until he gets the biopsy results back (crossing fingers)...the only thing im a little concerned about now is that he noticed in my blood work that my liver enzymes were elevated, so he wants me to do a cat scan on Friday...does anyone know why my liver enzymes are elevated and if it has anything to do with UC and how bad is this?

I had elevated liver enzymes 10 years ago while being only on Asacol. They did an ultra sound and it turned out I had a slightly fatty liver which can be a result of UC and most of all lifestyle. Do you eat a lot of greasy and fattening foods like fried stuff? That was the case with me and I changed my eating habits since then. Funny was that I was thin as a stick back then and had a fatty liver turn .

You are not on 6-MP or Imuran, right? That can elevate your liver enzymes, too.

Thanks for replying back...no I dont really eat a lot of greasy food at all...i wouldnt say im skinny but im 6'3" and way around 190...

The only meds im on are Asacol...

I have to have a blood test this week too just to monitor my liver etc. I think they watch it while you're on all the meds. I don't know much about it. Did your Dr. seem concerned? Anything he's having you do now?

Yea, he seemed a little concerned. I had a CT in Aug of '08 while I was hospitalized for UC symptoms (pre DX of UC). The CT images that came back showed my enzymes elevated for whatever reason. I had blood tests done about 2 weeks ago which after chekcing, my GI now wants to do another CT because the blood tests seemed abnormal.

Basically i have no idea what is going on...i feel fine (knock on wood) so hopefully everything is fine and im just reacting too my meds????

Occasionally in some people UC and the meds can mess with the liver. My last few blood draws showed dropping numbers on the liver function test and the last one had a few levels that were abnormally low, so I stopped taking the Imuran. Haven't had a follow up test to see if they've improved, but I'm hoping it was just the meds too.
Scary when this starts messing with the rest of our body. Let us know how the CT scan goes!

He is looking to rule out primary scleroising cholangitis. There is a correlation with UC, mostly in males. Do a search on 'PSC" here or on google to get more info.

The evelated lft's can be caused by other things, but PSC is what the Dr. is most concerned about most likely.

Well I go in for my CT scan romorrow...I most likely wont have any feedback until next week... I'll keep you all posted...
