Are you supposed to let enemas stay in you all night or temporarily?

I was looking into the Pentasa enema instructions, and it says to stay on your left side for about 10 minutes after administering the enema. However, it does not say if you are supposed to leave it over a longer period of time. Anyone know?

yes, one is to retain it overnight.

If one cannot, a half hour is better than not at all.

But, you're on the suppositories..right? Are you thinking of going on the enemas?

I am new with UC and also have had to use the steroid enemas for 3 months. I was very confused at first b/c my doc sent me home with no instructions... basically a diagnosis and a prescription. I was flip flopping on my sides thinking it would cover both sides of my colon (not realizing that that was wrong!). After doing it wrong for nearly a month... I called the nurse and doctor and they told me the longer you could keep it in, the better. If you can do it all night.. you probably won't have to take them as long. Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be
