Hi!

Doctor just raised my 6MP to 75 mg.  What side effects might I incur?  I nkow Christine has experience with this but others too.

I took it before bed with snack last night.  3:30 a.m. - yuck!  Little nausea, chills, shakey, little light-headed.  Nothing serious but will this get better or worse.  I know you don't know for sure - just trying to see if I should take it over Easter weekend when I have to travel, etc.

HI there-
When I was taking 6mp- I got nausea, tiredness, and yucky feeling. It went away after a while. Then when I went up on dosage I would get the side effects for a while, then it would go away.

What you have sounds normal. Also make sure you are getting your blood checked regularly....

I haven't had any side effects from 6MP. I'm on 75 mgs. Occasionally I suffer from loss of appetite but I'm not sure if it's the medicine or the disease. Good luck, I hope the side effects subside for you.

Haven't noticed side affects from 6mp. As someone else said, there are so many general "affects" of the disease and other meds it is hard to tell. Hair loss in the beginning was probable, but could have been the 5asa's too. Didn't not notice any changes when the dosing went either up or down.

I had the same side effects you are now, but they kept getting worse and my blood tests were also getting worse. Ends up it was causing problems with my liver and i was just unable to take 6MP. Once i stopped all side effects went away. I am not on Imuran and have not had any side effects (granted i don't know if it's really working either though!)

     Hi Elaine.  Did you have that Prometheus test to make sure you are able to tolerate the 6MP?  Not sure if that is the correct name of test...I believe it is the name of the lab...been so long ago for me.

     I cut my dosage down to 50 mgm one day and 25 mgm the next for the reason that my white count was far too low on the 75 mgm.  My white count is still low but not quite as bad.  My hair has thinned out quite a bit.  I have no other side effects.

     I take the 6MP with my noon day meal.

     This past week I have had quite a bit of indigestion.  Don't know whether this is medicine related or diet related.  Going to take some Prilosec.  Guess it is time to schedule an upper GI.  I haven't had one since 98.

Thanks for the encouraging words.  I felt better after I got up and ate.  I am having blood tests once a month.  But - my NP ordered tests for a week from now - after upping the dose to 75 mg.  She and doc KNOW how sensitive I am to medication.  I just want to stay on the prednisone forever - one I can tolerate and it works - wouldn't you know it would be the one that a person should not/can't stay on forever - oh well!

Having IBS and GERD, etc. etc. doesn't help as hard to determine what is going on sometimes.  I do like the nice skin I have, less painful joints AND energy - I needed that!!

     One thing I forgot to add....my GI doctor had me on Nexium while I was on prednisone last yr.  Seems like it may cause ulcers..oh well..

I take prescription Prilosec - works great!  Been on in it for a few years!

Also,  dealing with this all is made much better since Xanax!!

Two days on 75 mg. and tonight I am so shakey and nervous even with my Xanax upped a small bit.  Just want to be able to try this for a couple more days.  I will not take it if I get worse than this.  I took it last night at 10 and still shakey, etc.

IF I feel this way tomorrow or worse I will not take it tomorrow and feel like this for Easter - don't care what the doctor says.  I will take the 50 mg. - that seemed to do ok!

     Yeah, I didn't like how I felt on the 75 mgm either.  I am doing fine taking 50mgm one day and 25 the next.
