Is it okay to take Motrin if you are not having any UC troubles?  My son has had a fever for several days, and is taking Tylenol.  The doctor's office suggested Motrin to try to fight the fever.  Just didn't want to upset his UC, that is in remission. I just want him better for Christmas!!

stay away from motrin whether or not you/he is in remission.
no NSAID's at all.

there are theories that those are one of the causes for people to get UC in the first place.

why take the chance on getting a flare if you dont have to.

Some of us can take NSAID's in moderation, others not. There's no research showing that they cause UC. The reason they need to be used with a lot of caution is that they can irritate the lining of the GI tract and cause bleeding. If he does decide to take it, be sure he takes it with food to help protect his stomach. He might want to check with his GI doctor also.

I've taken Motrin, although rarely, out of desperation for a headache, but that's only if I don't have aspirin (yes, I know). Tylenol doesn't help my headaches at all, but works amazingly for my fevers when I'm sick as well as body aches.

I would think that one rather than two would be good to start.

As well, maybe make sure he's taking it with a bit of food rather than having nothing in his stomach.

There's no proof that I've read that it's a cause for UC since its only been out since the 80s.

Thanks for the advice. He suddenly seems better, so maybe the fever killed the bug (finally:). If not, I may try one Motrin. I knew that Motrin was bad during a flare, but wondered if it would actually cause a flare.
