I have been using honey as a sweetener and believe that it could possibly also have helped my UC heal better. I use "really raw" honey because it may have more healing properties than processed honey. Honey I believe has been used for thousands of years for healing.

I know my daughter can NOT tolerate sugar but can honey. Look up manuka honey (should be active factor 16 or more), it's made from the tea tree plant and has anti microbal/bacterial properties. We've used it successfully on mouth ulcers.

Honey is used to heal external ulcers also (don't do this without doctors advice of course).
Honey is one of the only foods that has no expiration date, it never spoils.
I love honey...in moderation of course :-)

It's also a laxative....so overdoing might not be a good thing if that's a symptom.

What are all the ways you feel better?

Where exactly is the extent of your UC...throughout or limited (to where?)?

What medications are you on and what symptoms are you having or have improved since diagnosis?

When was diagnosis?

Sorry for the delayed response.

As far as ways I try to manage my condition:

1.) Try to follow a natural, basic diet without dairy, sugar and processed foods the best I can

2.) Peridiocally take probiotics (I'm careful which ones I take)

3.) I eat raw honey whenever I can. I use it as a sweetener for all my sweet tooth needs.

Note: I got to where I am today by first starting on a very strict diet as detailed in the book, Restoring Your Digestive Health along with anti-inflammatory and steroid meds.

As far as the extent of my UC, I don't know really except that I have been without bleeding for approx. 1 year after suffering for about 3-4 months when I was first diagnosed.

I have not been taking meds. for the past year.

I have been very fortunate.

How far up is your UC? Is it throughout your colon or limited to the rectum, etc?

Seems interesting that you don't know where your UC is....

I suspect you're trying to focus on the book??

I don't know the extent of my UC. I had a colonoscopy but was not told where or how far up the UC was. I didn't know to ask.

As far as the book, I'm just relaying what I did. I suspect diet is very important but that is just my belief and whether or not that diet is better than others, I have no idea.

Oh, and I prayed a lot.

I know you and I both cannot eat fruit. Why is honey OK with my colon and not fruit?
A week ago I tried a low-fructose plantain and even sauteed it first, still symptomatic.
It's weird but I am thankful for honey being OK for me.
