bloody uc from maude

hello lovely people, i have had uc for near on 4 yrs i think, i have been on azathaprin since sept, still only on 3 tabs aday becouse of issues with my fortnightly blood work, also i am on 4 asacol a day

ive had a real headache all day and feels like i have sand weights on my shoulders, coughing up a little bit of phlegm, feel crap, also ive had a pain to the left of my belly button, not big pain but its been here all day, i have been given some antibiotics amaxocillin, if i feel worse tomorrow the dr says i will be admitted to go on anti-biotics on a drip

any words of advice people?

I am sorry you are feeling so badly but I can definetely relate as I am sure many can here. I have had times of feeling so down and depressed over the stupid UC!!  It really affects all aspects of life when one is flaring badly. I think you are wise to look into surgury options. So many here have had surgery and they sound like life is so much better. If I ever have a horrible, uncontrolable, long lasting flare , I will be considering it myself.

Do you have supportive friends or family near by to help keep your spirits up?!

Sorry that your post was pretty much ignored. The Uc forum has been a bit slow with our regular members because of the holidays and the hit count on posts don't account for much because it can be from search engines.

First of all, I would highly recommend you NOT take Amoxicillian. Any of the 'cillians or 'cyclines can increase the chances of C.diff in us and make a flare worse or bring on a flare. Are you on probiotics at the moment?

probiotics are the organisms in yogurt but they all sell them in pill form. THey can be purchased at drug stores or in refrigerated areas of health food stores. Acidophilis is the most common one that we often hear about but there are many others that when combined can help promote good bactiera in your gut.

what is wrong with your bloodwork on Aza? I had to add another drug called allupurinol because my liver enzymes were elevated. It seems to have corrected itself but now I am dealing with other issues. 4 tabs of Asacol 400mg? or 800mg? I take 9 tabs of 400mg. Are you using rectal meds?

My suggestion...get off the Asacol and antibiotics. The antibiotics are only stealing what good bacteria you have. Try probiotics and give them a couple weeks to see if your symptoms improve. VSL3 is the best i've found.

You need to do both oral and rectal together.
