Prednisone withdrawl - joint and muscle pain

If you had this after stopping pred, how long did it take to go away?  It has been two weeks since I have been off of it (was on it for 3 years).  It mainly bothers me when I first get up in the morning or after sitting for a while, I am stiff and sore all over my body.

light exercise is the only thing I can recommend! - Ive been there, I wasnt on pred for 3 years but I had some long stints on and off for 2-3yrs
Shoulder pain for me was the worst!.. and ankles too..
stretches helped, they will pass or at least get easier over time

3 years is a long, long time.... I would be concerned that your adrenal glands may not be functioning and your cortisol is low. I would talk to your doctor. I have joint/muscle pain when stopping prednisone but the longest I have been on it is about 7 months. It can take a couple months for the aches to go away, in my recollection. Though I tend to have ongoing aches now that I never had before. I think some of it is UC related arthritis.

I find that swimming helps me... it's easy on your joints with generally fluid motions... Not sure if the hot tub would be a good or bad idea. But I always go to the steam room to help relax and sweat out toxins... just make sure you drink a lot of water and get some electrolytes back into your system.

I've never been on pred for longer than four months.. I couldn't imagine anything over a year.

I was on pred for 2.5 years and it took one year full year to eliminate the joint pain after the taper. I agree, exercise will help! It will go away but it will take time.

I have started taking glucosamine and chondroitin (sp?) Both have really helped my knees and other joints feel a lot better. I have also gotten back to exercising which seems to be helping a lot also. Just some ideas.
