Hi all. New to the forum. I was diagnosed with UC 2007, remission achieved quickly with colifoam. 2 yrs then out of remission and allergic to 5ASA, so a 9 week course of prednisone worked for remission. 2011, my latest flare and prednisone didn't work.
I found myself on my 6th gastro Dr and we tried the FODMAP diet which really helped in reducing all my symptoms from cramps, loose bowels and frequency. After 6 months of this flare it was a welcome relief. I quit smoking 2.5 yr ago and thought out of desperation I'd try cigarettes. Within 2 days the bleeding stopped. No idea if I stop smoking it will come back so I'm smoking Til Feb because I've booked in to try human probiotic infusion aka fecal transplant. I live in Australia and have tried using antibiotics which didn't work, but I only tried 5 weeks then gave up.
I've been on no drugs for 3 months, just the FODMAP diet for 3 weeks and smoking 6 weeks. So far I've been in remission from blood since I started smoking and the gut pain, loose bowels and bowel frequency all got under control within 2 days of starting FODMAP diet.
I'll quit smoking the day before I start the HPI. I'll happily report back as I start the process and see if it works.
Cheers!!
