I've been gaining weight like mad.
My UC is sorta o.k., (still having urgency and multiple stools a day) my diet is not bad (gluten free) and healthy for sure. Exercise is moderate (3-4 times per week). I had an ERCP back in December for my Chronic Pancreatitis and all is stable there.
Not taking anything new, except some pancreatic enzymes once a day. Still on Lialda/Rowasa at night. Some supplements but nothing unusual.
Not in menopause.
Age 47.
I've put on 10lbs. since December!! WT heck is going on?? Anyone else notice this with our condition? I'm used to being under or just at average weight. Now I'm officially overweight.
I know, I know, when I was really flaring I was down 40 lbs. from here, but sheesh, this is ridiculous.

Well, honestly, there could be reasons why you're gaining weight, but the most likely one is that your metabolism is slowing (I know you said you had your thyroid function tested, but did they do a thorough test or just look at your thyroid hormone levels?). And you may not be menopausal, but have you had your day 3 FSH testing recently? That would indicate how far into perimenopause you are (or aren't) and might give you another window into what's going on metabolically.
Just as a comparison, I have maintained at the same weight for the last....dozen years? With minor fluctuations due to flares (down) and remission (up), about
5 lb each. But now I'm exercising vigorously 3x/week, eating gluten free, and heh, not a lb drops off.
It's hard to maintain our hotness into our 50s. Just sayin'.

Oh, I don't know about
that! I think post menopausal ladies are extremely hot!

Kazbern,
you were me a few years ago, or vise-versa??
Now, no matter what I do or don't do, it just goes up.
We'll see.....
And Wodin, thanks buddy, I do too but that's just me.

Menopausal ones too, but that's a different kind of hot.

I had weight gain a couple years ago while flaring and never on prednisone. At the time I was not gluten-free although I tried various diets with no success back then. When I eliminated carbs and went gluten-free my weight got back to normal plus symptoms got much better.
There is really no telling why some people gain weight with UC and others lose it, even when prednisone is not a factor. I'm post-menopausal now and was back then. Who the heck knows but UC acts different with everyone it seems. I've got 3 sizes of clothes in my closet but haven't worn the big ones for 3 years now.

Yes, but getting older still beats the alternative.

I gained 15 pounds so far this year. My symptoms are still raging, although very slightly less D than before. I can't understand how someone with near constant D gains weight. I feel your pain! I suspect the Lialda, but who knows.
