Hi there,
I'm in the same boat--excessive/long term antibiotic use destroyed the flora in my colon, and after having 100% normal gut function for 38 1/2 years, I'm entering my 39th year as a stomach-achey-can't-eat-anything-poop-machine.
I was on Clindamycin during my pregnancy for weeks; in October 2011 started getting mucus/blood/diarrhea. Thought maybe it was a *pregnancy* thing? Diarrhea/cramping/blood and mucus got worse and worse from October 2011 to February 2012 (delivered a healthy son in January 2012) when I was hospitalized for 25+ urgent movements a day, mostly consisting of blood.
But, can't really answer your question, because I'm not in remission--pretty far from it, actually...still on 15mg pred, and all the meds/supplements you can see in my signature...
I have basically b*e*g*g*e*d my GI to find someway, someone, somehow to try me out with fecal transplants...I am really trying to amp up the probiotics, but I don't think it's the same...I think fecal bacteriotherapy would probably jumpstart my improvement more than anything else, considering that a change in my flora started all of this in the first place...
Ta and take care,
Lisa
