flare up after pregnancy??

for those of you who had flare ups after pregnancy, how long did did it take for the symptoms to come around. i just gave birth 5 days ago, and ive been getting gas, mucus, and a bit of blood. the blood is bright red so im not sure its from UC or the hemmies i still have. im not getting any urgency to go to the bathroom but i do get lots of gas. what do you guys think, flare up or symptoms from hemmies?

First congrats on the birth and getting through the pregnancy without a flare.
My advice: don't go into denial and attribute the symptoms to the hemmies. Hemmies don't give you gas. FYi my flareup after birth (my most severe flareup which led to the diagnosis soon after) started as being very gassy and going extra times to the toilet only to pass gas and 'bits' of stool and some fresh blood.

I would say hit it before it starts -go back on nightly enemas if you aren't. If you are already then considering upping your meds.

Hemmies also don't usually give you mucus so I would say you are seeing flare symptoms. Since you just had a baby you really don't want to let a flare get out of control. It is really stressful to flare with a newborn at home. I know from experience! I agree with Conquer UC, I would talk to a doctor ASAP and hit it hard before it gets bad.

I agree with what the others said. You want to nip this before it gets ugly. Put a call in to your GI as soon as possible.

Hope all went well with the birth of your baby. Congratulations.

Definitely you need to deal with the flare quickly at this point since you'll be required to expend much energy towards your baby.

What's your status regarding the enemas...meaning have you been using them during your pregnancy?
ARe you using them now?

i had been using enemas during my hole pregnancy just to avoid getting a flare up during my pregnancy but i completely stopped while i was at the hospital and a couple of days after i got home. could me not using them for about 4 days have caused those symptons? i had a couple of bm's today but no blood on it but a few times i went to the bathroom and it was just gas and a bit of mucus.

Congrats!

Your hormones are adjusting after so many months of changes during pregnancy. My UC has always been affected by hormones and menstrual cycle. With my son my UC was great during pregnancy and flared after birth and with my daughter things flared up during pregnancy and then cleared up the day I gave birth. Very strange!

Are you breastfeeding? With my son each time I began breastfeeding in the morning I had a sudden urge to go to the bathroom. After a few weeks this got better. I did see my GI and had a scope but everything looked good.

If you flared during pregnancy you should try to keep up with the nightly enemas to try and prevent things from getting worse.

Keep us posted on your progress and try to rest and eat well!
