Just another probiotic approach- cabbage juice is rich in certain probiotics such as l.plantarum- if one can tolerate the gas etc that coukd also come from cabbage juice. Probiotics are a trial and error thing- cabbage juice is certainly no cure but like any probiotic approach could help some.

I agree with Probiotic.
I tried cabbage juice and could NOT handle it.
So it's very individualistic.

I used to juice red raw cabbage juice daily for 2 months and never had any problems with gas. I swear it helped me to some extent, but I was not using organic and I was also following the SCD diet at the time.

I don't think its published yet... I havn't seen it in any journals. Maybe is slipped out of my view!
Cabbage has S-methylmethionine (vitamin U) which has some potential in wound healing of epithelial cells (GI cells). Most commonly known to help heal stomach ulcers.
3-indolecarbinol which is in cabbage gets metabolized and activates the aryl hydrocarbon receptor which is involved in innate immunity (first line of defense for the immune system) of the GI tract. It can reduce the amount of inflammation in the gut.
It is also a source of many more phytochemicals and vitamins and minerals, all of which can lead the body on a healing path and protect from other diseases to make colitis much more liveable.

I've been using a variation of this procedure for a week and haven't had any bad effects yet. Not sure it's helping either but hard to tell since I'm also doing kefir and probiotic pills. Here's the recipe I use.

Sounds like a good recipe, but I would recommend red cabbage over green cabbage any day. Red has stronger antioxidant properties that act as an anti-inflammatory, over green. Also, choose from organic, otherwise one would be beating the purpose of healing, and instead with loads of junk pesticides.

Had a glass (of the green) last night, no problems, though I did take a gasx a few hours later.

Read up on the red vs green and found this from whfoods.org.
"some red cabbages contain almost twice the vitamin C as some green cabbages. Red cabbages are always richer in anthocyanins (flavonoid phytonutrients) that not only act as antioxidants but also function as supporters of the immune system"
Made a batch of red this afternoon :).

I did a green cabbage juice juicing twice a day for several weeks and it healed all ulcerations in my stomach. It did not help my SI or colon but it did help the stomach. I should have continued to drink it but I didnt enjoy the taste.
Take care!
