Anyone find this odd? Imuran question

I have been on Imuran for 6 weeks now, and the past two weeks I have been at 150 mgs. I have been able to successfully wean down to 5mgs of prednisone, which I haven't been able to do in a year and a half. Well, a week ago I started to get terrible nausea after taking my Imuran dose...I tried some of the over the counter meds but they didn't work that great, so I called my GI yesterday and talked to the nurse and asked for him to prescribe me something for nausea. The nurse called back this morning, and said the doc wants me to move my dose down to 100 mgs, and see if the nausea subsides. Does this make sense, if the Imuran is working well? I'm worried that if I go down I might start to flare again....Maybe he wants me to go down to get my body use to it more, then go back up?? idk just seems weird

I went through something similar - horrible nauseau and exhaustion that started somewhere around the 4-6 week point after starting Imuran.  It lasted for a few weeks, then slowly subsided.  My GI didn't lower my dose but told me it was normal, meant the Imuran was "kicking in" and it should go away.  He was right (in my case) - hang in there!

Yes, had my first blood test done three weeks ago and the doctor called me and said everything came back "normal". Then a week later is when all the nausea started.

Silly question, but are you taking your Imuran on an empty stomach? I was on 100mg for a while and would throw up on the way to work if I forgot to take it with food.

Only made that mistake a few times!

The regular blood work is usually a CBC and a hep panel. There is another test that is very expensive that shows whether you're in the theraputic range. I believe it's called 6mmp/tgp. Askk your GI. I think these tests are the best way to guage whether you're on the correct dose.
