Actually home remedies have their place in UC. This includes diets. You just have to do a lot of research and find out if there is any evidence from independent sources that shows that they do anything. Rule #1 is not to listen to one word from a site where someone is actually trying to sell the product or a book. Anyone anywhere using the word "testimonial" you know that the whole thing is nothing but a crock. Try to find actual medical studies of the particular product but don't listen to any doctors from websites trying to sell you something, they're just in it for the money. I have taken a few different natural things where there was some medical proof that they actually did something, at least in some patients. I am currently taking VSL, Monolaurin, digestive enzymes, and DGL licorice and Vitamin D - all of which are safe and have some facts behind them. I also took a few other similar things but they didn't really do much of anything. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can do these things and not be on any meds but it is probably wiser to do both, but skipping the bad drugs if possible. The 5ASA's are about the only "safe" drugs to take long term.
