My mom just got diagnosed with colitis at age 78. I was diagnosed last year at age of 48. She has just bleeding. I had a few rough months until the medication (asacol) kicked in. Now pretty much symptom free but I do watch diet and eat a lot of fermented foods along with taking asacol.

Was she diagnosed with colitis or Ulcerative colitis? Did she have a scope to confirm?

78 is a rare age to be diagnosed with Uc but I guess anything is possible.

She had a scope done because of blood. They did a biopsy and results will be back in a week. It is some form of colitis. It is in a small area near the rectum unlike mine which was in the first 5 inches. It was progressively getting worse, so who knows.

Hi..welcome to the forum.

Does your mom have other health issues? and recent treatments?

I would strongly suggest the doc get her on rectal meds asap...not to rely on only oral asacol. Unless the asacol she's on is rectal and you're not from the US?

a grandma of 78 years old won't be able to administer herself enemas lol

It takes some dexterity to do it, some positioning. People at that age they are not so mobile.
