good GI in Indiana?

Anyone know any good GIs in the Bloomington or Indianapolis area?

May just be my internet today, but it looks like the website is a bit wonky today.

Sounds like he knows what he's doing, but that's an awfully long wait. Choosing a doctor is a difficult decision...I know. I keep going through primary care physicians like used tissues. I like Buckley because he's really nice, he listens to everything I say, he explains and makes sure I understand what he's telling me, shows me his computer screen & compares all of my tests to show progress if any, & doesn't sugar coat anything. A huge plus for me is that his Mooresville staff is super nice. The Indy staff isn't too bad, but there are a few prickly pickles. The wait time for appointments is 2 months.

Well I think it means a lot. He also does a ton of other stuff. Did you even look him up?

I've also gotta say that my last colonoscopy was done by Buckley & it was the most soothing experience in my life....aside from being on the toilet for 24hrs, but really how is that much different from any other day? The Mooresville branch has a dedicated area for colonoscopies, the nurse at the front desk is super nice & deals with the patient's driver instead of the patient. Then the nurses in the back are so very soothing and gentle & it's so quiet back there that I fell asleep. I was woken up by Buckley himself who was telling me that the nurses were going to give me Demoral & I was going straight back for my procedure. When it was all done he came back to my bed where I was resting to tell me more stuff that I don't remember but he sounded sweet & gentle. :) The nurses doted on me until I was able to walk out on my own.

There's a big difference between being rated a good doctor and actually knowing more than other doctors. What does it matter what other stuff he does? I only care about UC and with UC what is it that you think he knows that nobody else knows? You are going to wind up waiting in long lines and waiting months for an appointment just so he can tell you about 5ASA's, prednisone, Imuran, 6mp, Remicade, Humira, and a very small assortment of enemas and supps. I mean, it's none of my business how you pick your doctor. Everyone picks who they are comfortable with for a variety of reasons, including me. I'm just saying that he has absolutely no other tricks in his bag than any other doctor, no matter how much education he has. If one doctor recommends Remicade and Dr. Rex recommends Humira, does that make him any smarter than the first doctor? My doctor is supposed to be one of the best in my area but he doesn't know anything more than anyone else does. Fortunately, I don't have to wait for mine. I would personally hate doing all that waiting just to here the same ole same ole.

Indiana is having a huge nursing shortage so the ones you meet are overworked and grumpy about it.

I recently had a bad experience with an allergist's staff. The doctor came highly recommended and he knew his stuff but his staff made sure I'll never go back again ever.

*sigh* You just go with the doctor you were recommended as long as you're doing ok and can wait. No problem with that. :::hugs::: :)

I'm on my third GI since being diagnosed. My first one would still be my GI had he not retired and had I not moved across the country. He and I actually had some (brief) discussions about alternative treatments -- I brought it up, but he seemed willing to discuss them in-depth, should I not respond well to conventional treatments.

My second GI was the first one I had here in NY. I really hated his office staff, so I switched. I also wasn't terribly fond of him -- he sort of seemed to try to talk me out of using rectal meds, although he was willing to write the script.

My third GI is my current one. I've only seen him once, but so far, I really like him. He fully supported my use of oral + rectal meds and encouraged me to stay on it since it's working so well, and since the literature shows that dual therapy is superior to monotherapy.

So bascially, what I'm trying to say is that all GIs are NOT the same. Some docs spend more time staying up-to-date than others do, by reading medical journals, attending conferences, interacting with colleagues, etc.

Didn't realize I was that upset. All I was saying was that smart doctors don't have anything knew it their bag of tricks that anyone else has. I also know what it is like to go through doctors. With my first autoimmune disease I looked up to my first hematologist like he was god. I was so impressed. I had a disease that I needed some hope with and he had all the answers, until I learned more about the disease and saw many inconsistancies in his treatment plan. Eventually, when I knew more, I fired him for being so incompetant and switched to another doctor, who I also fired, mostly due to his office staff, who were horrible. My first wife was an RN who worked for a while in this one doctor's office. He was very highly regarded and absolutely loved, adored, and highly respected by his patients. I'm sure he had a very high rating. My wife could not believe how horrible of a doctor he really was and was appalled at the extremely outdated sterilization procedures his office used, which, if the state had found out about, would have closed them down for a while. Sometimes doctor ratings don't mean crapola. Just because someone has a lot of confidence in a doctor doesn't mean they are actually a good doctor. Some are just better than others at blowing sunshine up your ass. I don't want sunshine. I want the truth.

Time spent with me is why I like Buckley so much. UC is upsetting and when things are all wrong and it hurts then it's even worse. Right now I'm prone to sobbing at the drop of a hat so I know what you're feeling right now.

I've been screwed over by so many doctors that I now have what a nurse called "white coat fever". I was also given a very nasty staff infection by a nurse at a filthy hospital in my hometown so I distrust everyone. I tell all new doctors that I am leery of them and their staff and will be that way until they prove to me they are competent.

When my grandmother was dealing with her colon cancer, my aunt drove her from 60miles northeast of Cleveland all the way to Detroit because of a doctor who was the best in his field at the time. They did that weekly for a long time. Our hometown had nothing then and still doesn't now. However Cleveland has improved much in medicine.
