Can cause cramps because of the caffeine which has laxative properties, that's probably the most immediate cause? Unless allergic to one of the additives?
Also, as others have said, the other ingredients can all be irritant. Also, there's the new research about concentrated milk fat producing taurine conjugated bile which the "bad" bacteria b. wadsworthia loves to feed on. I know lots of chocolate bars here in the UK contain extra milk fat, as do most cheap ice creams.
Chocolate also has a really high copper content and it is not good to overdo the copper, although I don't think you'd find an immediate reaction to that.
Having said that, last year I went into a bit of flare at a time when I was a few months into a chocolate free regime so I don't think it is all bad. So confusing this illness!
