I started having a bad flare a few weeks ago after 9 months of very little symptoms (or atleast livable). My doctor wanted to put me on prednisone again, but the side effects for me are absolutely awful. So we decided to try entocort before jumping to prednisone. The entocort has surprisingly helped some (despite my doctors hesitance). The only thing is that when I take the pills in the morning I get this very "out of it feeling" for like an hour later and have a hard time focusing. It almost makes me feel a bit drowsy. Has anyone else experienced this before? It's different than the usual pumped up/energized feeling I got while on pred.

I thought I read that you take the entocort 3 times per day instead of all at once. It also may have something to do with taking 3 entocort and 3 lialda all at once. Other than that I don't know.

Never experienced the out of it feeling, but the biggest side effect for me was headaches, but once i got used to it, the headaches went away. Maybe that will be the case with you. How long have you been on it? It took at least 2 weeks for the headache to go away

I get headaches too. Ive been on it for about a week and I take all three Entocort in the morning. It could be the mix of all the meds at once I guess. But it is good to know that your headaches, Jano437, went away after two weeks, hopefully mine will too!

I take mine all in morning also, never got out of it feeling, but did get the headaches for a while, have you asked your Dr. about Uceris? Just released, if he is ok with trying endocort, he should be on board w/ that, it is endocort with a more effective delivery system! Uceris is specifically indicated for UC, while endocort is indicated for Crohn's.

It's odd that I get this out of it feeling. Maybe it's just from all of the meds I am taking and hopefully the headaches go away soon.
I did talk to my doctor about Uceris. I thought when he told me to try Budesonide he was referring to Uceris and not Entocort at first. He was okay with the Uceris when I brought it up but my insurance was a mess trying to get it snce it was just released and I needed to get on some kind of meds. However, the Entocort seems to be helping me so far.
Could I switch from Entocort to Uceris even if I haven't finished the whole course of the Entocort? I would assume since it's a similar med basically?

I know exactly what you are talking about but I get it when I start or taper on prednisone. It is like the is a fog between your brain and the world? I get that the first few day and it goes away. I have never taken entocort so I don't know if it would happen then too but I totally have it every time I take prednisone and they are both steroids.

Teddtlove, it feels exactly like a fog between my brain and the world!! Then i get a headache after the fog goes away. Now that I look back on it, I kinda felt that way last time I tapered pred too, but thought this was odd since i'm just starting entocort. But I guess they are both steroids so it makes sense.
Just wanted to make sure i'm not the only one out there who gets this odd side effect haha

You could switch with no problem, you do not need to do terms or tapering with endo..I've been on endo for over a yr. To prevent your ins from switching it he would have to specify DAW on script.

I never took entocort orally, but I took it in an enema for many years. It did not cause any noticeable side effects. However...

A few years ago I was diagnosed with full blown osteoporosis. I am a male and was 36 when diagnosed. I would strongly suggest you get referred to a endocrinologist to have a bone scan done for reference. I don't know why it isn't standard practice after being diagnosed with any IBD.

That's a good idea about the bone scan. I def think it should common practice as well with all of the steroids and medications we take, plus with the lack of nutrients and vitamins we don't absorb from foods.
I did notice after being on prednisone for six months that i had a lot more aches and pains and more arthritis like symptoms. My gasto sent me to an endocrinologist but he just made me take Tumeric and glucosamine supplements and then sent me to physical therapy haha.
