Rectal inflamation keeps returning!

I have rectal inflamation that keeps returning. I've been using everything . So hard to get rid of. I know it's rectal. Used proctofoam today, boy did it burn!!!!! Enemas or suppositories? So confused and uncomfortable:(

Have you given any thought to trying Stereo's Wise Women # 2 suppositories, he said it worked better than Canasa?

Supps would probably have less burning.....wish you could get the proctocedyl ones..

worth trying what InSoFla suggested maybe...

I've looked into The Wise women#2 . They are not cheap. Might give it a try. Since I'm not having any luck with everything else I have. Rectal inflamation is so difficult to get under control.

Quincy! You would think with all the meds I have to pick from, I could get this under control. Maybe it's the Hemmies again!

weird since it has a numbing agent or pain reliever med in it..lol. Could be the other stuff that makes the foam?

Could be the hemmie....maybe do a sitz bath.

What other symptoms are you having?

Gas,little blood and alternating loose stool and constipation. Blood only when I have a hard time going.

loose stool can be from higher recal inflammation. have you been on another oral 5ASA ?

Only Balsalazide . Asacol never agreed with me. Think I should try a different one. Been on it for about 5 years.

My colitis is only localized to the rectum. When I'm in a flare I have to be careful of using too much enemas and canasa suppositories otherwise it causes more problems for me.

One thing that has helped tremendously is I started taking slippery elm. I eat a few lozenges a day. So far, I've not had trouble with constipation, hemmies and fissures like I normally do. My BM's are effortless.

I've had to use cortifoam for a year straight before finally tapering off of it....sometimes proctitis can be hard to treat, especially if it's severe enough. I definitely learned the hard way not to stop using it too soon.

When I have a fissure everything burns and stings. It may be a good idea to get looked at just to make sure it's inflammation and not a hem or fissure.

Stings like a bit....h. I think it might be a fissure . Asked the GI about this. He said it sounds like it. He did a rectal 2 weeks ago, thought I was bleeding from higher up. Wound up being the pepto bismol. Didn't know it can turn your stool black. Since the rectal exam I've been having theses problems. Lol he has big hands! I think he irritated the area more then what was going on before.
Going to try the slippery elm losengers.
Never stopped using rectal meds. Even though on Humira . Humira is not a cure. Helped a lot but it has not put me in remission.
Using A&D ointment to try to put a barrier to protect the irritated tissue if it is a fissure. Feels better. Not sure what else to do. Making me crazier then my normal crazy!!!!! Thanks Faith

You were taking Pepto? why?

I hope the A&D will help...what about something with zinc?

Sucks that the doc might have created a problem from the exam...hopefully you'll be able to get it feeling better.

have you been doing sitz baths?

quincy, Took pepto was having upper gastric problems. Take a PPI, but it isnt helping. Having a endoscopy on Thursday.
Have the A@D with and without Zinc. Have Zinc alone too. Been doing the sitz baths. Having an anxiety problem from this whole thing. I'm in such a funk! If it's not one end bothering me it's the other. I'm not sure there is much more to do :( You have any more ideas? Trying to treat both ends!!!!!

I had to stop using the Rowasa at night and just stuck to using the Canasa suppositories because for me, no matter how much I lubed up the Rowasa, I felt it did more damage than good(after a while). I also think we have to be careful of the position we're in when inserting the Rowasa because you can poke and irritate hemmies and fissures.

I also don't believe in getting rectal exams every time I go to the GI. I feel like for those of us who suffer from proctitis, the rectal exam can sometimes cause us to flare-even if it just starts the hemmies again, I find that one problem like hemmies or fissures can easily lead me back to a flare if I'm not careful. With regards to my butt, less is more.

May want to give the vit E enema a shot for a few days/weeks... way less toxic than what youre doing.

Yes its hard to treat rectal inflammation im dealing with it right now. takes alot fo time and when you think its gone, it comes back. at least thats what has been my situation
