I don't think NCOT needs a chef to prepare her breakfast or even her lunch. She's probably happy to eat a yogurt (not what I would consider a processed food unless you're eating the kind made with corn syrup and gums) for breakfast a some fruit and nuts or a sandwich for lunch. I'm talking about
a hot meal prepared by a chef.
We had chef-prepared meals delivered for a while as a barter for my husband's legal services. It was quite the treat to get a break from meal prep. I wish I could afford that, but I cannot. And honestly, suggesting it for NCOT was partly tongue-in-cheek, as I'm sure she understands.
And hey, Malkavian, I prepare meals for a family of four five nights a week whether I like it or not. That's just the deal. We eat to live, we do not live to eat in my house, but I try to make good, balanced meals with ingredients purchased as much as I can from the whole foods parts of the grocery store. A weekly grocery bill for one person at $90 is really high. I live in a major US metropolitan area and I shop at Whole Foods + Kroger for most of our groceries and our spending for one month for four people is about
$1000. That is about
$60/week/person of whole food eating. I just searched my local area for a prepared meal service and here's one for every meal, every day: $128:

NCOT has a particular set of challenges. She's struggling with depression and probably finds a lot of life's basic chores unmotivating and really hard to complete. Cooking is not something that is generally fun to do every day, but it is a necessary part of living a healthy life. One way to make it more enjoyable is to do it with friends. Maybe NCOT can make plans to have a friend come over and help her prepare a week's worth of meals.
