FDA and FT backtrack

WooHoo!! Thanks for posting...this news is right on time for me!

I saw my GI today about fecal transplants. I've been asking him for about a year to do one for me and he keeps saying no. today, I practically begged him because of all my c diff problems and he said that UPMC has no regulations on the fecal transplant and he would get fired if he did one. apparently, the hospital has to have a protocol for it and UPMC is in the stone age when it comes to fecal transplant. he told me larry brandt in new York has done a ton of them and I should see him if I really want one.

he said that he is keeping an eye on all the studies and results and the C diff results are promising but the UC results are not.

pathogen, yeah, I've read about the turmeric enemas but since turmeric is a blood thinner and I am super anemic, I just couldn't risk it.

I asked my doc about sodium butyrate enemas today since I know you use SB and he just said as long as you eat fruits and vegetables, you are making sufficient amounts of sodium butyrate. I still might pick up a bottle of the one you use and try it though. the vanco is making my UC symptoms start up again so I need to treat both at the same time.

I think I might try them again, but with different probiotics. I used vsl last time for enemas but that has no probiotics that are proven to help c diff. right now, I have lactobacillus gg, sacchara. boul., and bacillus coagulans. those mixed with a sodium butyrate capsule would be powerful I think.

Well "back off" is too strong. There was no immediate plan for all out enforcement of the initial policy, so pointing out that they will use "discretion" still leave them free to go after quacks offering expensive FT therapy weekends at upscale spas for all sorts of reasons. They are not going to go after a doc who tries the occasional UC patient who does not have c-diff.

IMO the policy is completely sensible, and any further guidelines about disclosure and consent should be most welcome - except by the quacks.

This will mostly apply to GI who have their own clinics. Those doing the procedure at a hospital will still be unable to do it unless the hospital has a protocol for it. Hospitals don't tolerate random experiments on their property.
