Hi all. So I've been on SCD for two weeks now (and two weeks @ 95% SCD before going 100%).
I've never thought of myself as having IBS. And I'm a hypochondriac, so believe me that I've considered it. But I've always answered "no" when the GI has asked over the years if I have cramping, abdominal pain, etc.
However, these past couple of weeks I've been noticing frequent abdominal discomfort (to some extent just about daily). I've had C for a few days now - have barely gotten anything out of the system. I've been bloated / in discomfort / in very mild "pain" ALL day today. I'm thinking that it's either a normal issue b/c of all of the cheese and other rich/fatty foods in the diet (which might stop anyone up and cause the discomfort) or that maybe I do have IBS and eating such abnormal quantities of these specific foods (dairy, nuts, etc.) is revealing it. Previously I ate cheese, yogurt, nuts, etc, but not as much on a daily basis b/c I was never trying to live off the stuff before. I am also eating plenty of veggies / roughage (as D has generally never been my issue).
I know that others have learned as individuals that even SCD legal foods/food groups are not good for their guts. And that it's all a matter of trial and error for each of us.
I guess I could try some elimination (starting maybe with quitting dairy for a week - though I've never seemed to have issues with it before). But I'm thinking maybe I should just quit SCD and try a gluten-free sunbutter-spinach diet at this point. Seems like something that will be a lot easier for me to stick with and more in line with the way I eat (I don't eat meat, which makes SCD a bit more challenging - really miss soy protein!).
I know many of you have more experience with diet mod, IBS issues, etc., and I would love to get your thoughts...
The SCD is also making me absolutely miserable (ruining a week-long visit from my family, and this weekend away with hubby and a friend, and there are so many other social occasions coming up now that it's summer).
And I don't know how much it's helping. I am dealing with a UP flare right now (rather than UC like before). Still have M in the stool, and it seems some B through at least yesterday. With not having many BMs in the past couple of days it's a bit hard to know. Urgency seems to be letting up though. Not only am I not rushing to bathroom anymore to just discharge a combo of B/M, but also seems like I'm getting a more normal feeling of "it's time to go" when I do...
Anyway - while things seem better than a week ago, I'm not sure how much can be attributed to SCD and how much to switching to Canasa suppositories 5 days ago (1000mg twice a day). All I know is that it seems my tummy is very unhappy with current dietary intake.
