Has anyone seen a infectious disease doctor for their UC?

I have a appt set up for next week, per my GI,just to rule out Lyme's which I dx back a few years ago. I have a stool culture right now being tested, that takes about 21 days that I ordered from Great Plains Lab.

 

Yes please let us know as I am curious if they test for enteroviruses? Old Mike just posted a finding on this subject. I am going for IgG testing this coming wednesday but my ND also suggested a stool test. Maybe that will be next and to check specifically for enterovirus since I have crohns /colitis..

Not me, no need. But considering you do well with some treatments for a while then regress, it's best to get that checked out.

I wouldn't go to infectious disease if Lyme was my worry. They don't believe in chronic Lyme.

I worked with about 20 of them until 4 years ago. I don't have nice things to say. I hope you have better luck with yours.

I think yersinia is best treated with Plaquenil and biaxin concurrently.

I've just read about biaxin and plaquenil and I think they're too risky, biaxin provokes bleeding, out of the question in UC, now I have to subdue my flare up as it's driving me mad!!!!!

Hi Pathogenkiller, I'm really so confused about all these drugs, it was the doctor who prescribed me this cipronex, but if it is good or bad, I don't know, I only know that doctors in Poland are stupid. I have to take antibiotic for twenty days, so nothing can be done than to wait patiently. Best wishes, do u have colitis too?

My daughter has had UC for three years. We have been around the country to the best and with little results. She has been on Cipro for over a year prescribed by the Cleveland Clinic as well as Immuran. 4 months ago we took her to a Alternative MD after hearing 3 incredible stories of people who were sick with different serious symptoms and no answers from doctors and after having a Lyme diagonsis by a specialist had incredible improvement (These individuals did not have UC but some had gastro issues). So we figured what the hell let's give it a shot. It took months while the cultures grew and sure enough our daughter tested positive for Lyme as well as a few other bacterias. So now what do we do with this info. We tried Doxy but it did not agree with her. Our GI is on board and open minded and is staying neutral, so we do run everything past him first. The philosophy makes sense that unlike an organ that fails, her colon goes in and out of functionality (My words not docs). We need to remove all the bugs in her system that are causing her immune system to not function properly. The best result would be once her system is back to peak effiencency her colon can heal on its own. the next best result, would be once the bugs are all removed then the meds which are now not working will work. Either way, no down side except financially since most of this is not covered by insurance.

mycoplasma, babesia, epstein bar virus, h-pylori,

electro.. that sucks. Those are all difficult. So sorry she is dealing with all that. Im also dealing with mycoplasma and its a pain. I think Ive finally found an herbal protocol that is helping. Do you feel like you have a good treatment path?

Ive gotten so much better since Ive been working with an MD that is versed in herbs. I wish you so much luck. Its a long journey but have hope.. it can get so much better!

The treatment plan is new. starting very slowly and trying to build up her strength and overall health before she starts trying to kill off things. She is very depleted in all areas. My wife is the walking med cabinet so I'll get her to share the treatment plan.

The infectious disease doc said lyme's will not cause bowel problems...but he's still tesing me for parasites by stool sample. It's a totally different kit then Ihave had  in the past.

He said when I have my next colonoscopy he has a list of colitis names to have looked at under the microscope for biopsis such as lymphtosis colitis or something like that to narrow what type of inflammation I have. I don't want to even do one right now although it's been three years, I should start to plan one in the future.

he said my diarreah could be from being on antibiotics (not c diff) and that some people have diarreah as a normal stool and not to worry.

I will feel better once my test come back from two testing sites, that will be nice to see if they come up with the same results.

I'm exhausted drove around 6 hours today to appointments!
