I don't know what the heck this is: here it is so if anyone has any suggestions please help:-
To get out of current flare im on Clipper (beclomethasone) 5mg daily for the past 19 days, and for the past week isatis cooling and olive leaf, and started Digestive enzymes with echinacea four days ago.
Im also trying to get over a throat infection/post nasal drip which started with cold a week ago.

Every night for the past 3 days i have been in alot of pain from my legs and now even arms. It feels as though the muscles are hurting like hell! Im trying to sleep right now but i canno even fall asleep with this kind o pain. It's like someone beat me up all over :(
And im losing weight, fast! Even though my bowels have sort of stabilised the last few days so i don't know why im still losing weight; it's mostly 'muscle' weight i think because my muscles are losing their tone really fast.

The ironic thing is: this pain started at the same time the colon decided to get better, so maybe something that i started taking (one of those mentioned above) started to help me but is giving me this side effect?

It feels like my muscles are self-destructing *sigh*

Any ideas? Im suspecting either the echinacea or the olive leaf...

I'm not sure if this is what I've been dealing with, but I'm coming out of a moderate flare at the moment (strangely, without any medication), yet I'm experiencing quite a bit of pain in my knees, ankles, and feet. To a lesser extent, I have pain in my elbows and neck. I have read that this is not uncommon for people with UC around the time of a flare (either just before, during, or immediately after). I don't know what the answer is, but assuming that the cause of this pain is the same disease mechanism that we have in our colons, it's safe to assume that we are dealing with inflammation of our joints (I've noticed swelling of my feet), which would suggest that we need some anti-inflammatory treatments - this likely means using medication.

I'ts possible you have two different problems on..Are you currently taking any traditional meds for your UC.?...Are you bleedind at all..? How many BM are you having...Formed...Any Mucus...Rod

Im having formed bms, with some mild urgency. Thats it. Up to 3-4/day. Im still healing so i knw that im not 100% yet. But i was alot worse just last week, interestingly i did not have the joint pain when i was bad. However the issue is that the pain always flares at night, an it is ALOT of pain in the legs/arms. Behind the knees but also along the leg and my ankle.

Could this be herxheimer?

could be - I don't know all the symptoms of herx w/o looking them up -

my advice is give it another 24 hrs or so to see which direction things are going - if you are better, keep going as is - if not, I would eliminate everything that doesn't fall under the category of knowing for certain that it is helping - just don't give something the boot that you know might hurt you if you do -

how much and how have you been losing weight ? could it just be a virus on top of everything else ?

Soystud there could be a virus definitely because thats how the sore throat and cough started.
I was looking at my food diary and i think it may be the olive leaf, will skip it today (been taking it for 5 days) and see what happens. It would be nice if i could sleep again without that excruciating muscle pain...

I was going to schedule some nutritional sessions with Conquer...but man, I mean, she's a nutritionist and couldn't avert UC...I mean....you know....well.....


For me Nutritionist is the image of healthy perfection. ;p

I couldnt resist Conquer, I'm sorry. lol

Hehe dude you are not the first one to say that,
I don't even dare preach anything about healthy eating anymore coz people look at me like yeh sure healthy food is good for ya! My last stint was encouraging family and friends to go organic and well i started flaring again two months ago.

Maybe i should eat bad things for a while see how they affect me. First i'll make sure im close to hospital though just in case lol.

Just wanted to report back: stopped olive leaf yesterday and had no pain last night. Coincidence? I think not given how bad it was. I was lying in bed almost paralyzed by the pain. Amazing how a herb sold over the counter can do that to you.

I've used olive leaf many times with no problems, as have others. But you need to pay attention to your own body not mine, yours dislikes it or it is bad in combination with something else you take.

I've had people pooh-pooh my physical reactions to certain foods but I pay strict attention to what my body says.

Yes IMAG my body reacts in an 'interesting' way to supplements. Turmeric for example made me lose weight, garlicin gave me insomnia and muscle ache, and herbs my accupuncturist gave me to sooth the bowel made me bleed instead (my accup was left scratching her head), oh and lets not forget mesalamine enemas make me bleed (but oral is ok). So yeh im pretty weird that way.

Your reaction to mesalamine enemas but not oral makes me suggest you try the sulfa-free type enemas. That could be the big difference between the two and it's worth giving the RowasaSF a try because of such good results they can give you.

I don't have the sulfate problem (use generic mesalamine enemas no probs) but most supplements give my gut fits. I have a cabinet of failed supplements. Just tried Melatonin to replace my sleep aid and it was a huge disaster, worst bloody meltdown in years.

yes, highly recommended the sfRowasa, its the only 5asa I use now. The generic rowasa didn't make me feel as good as sfRowasa, the generic made me worse sometimes.
