Yes, there have been some who have had sudden onset kidney disease from 5ASA meds. It's obvious that probably salicylates are a never for them.
The 5ASA we use are topical, not systemically dispersed.
It is possible, that some with kidney disease might have already had an issue...hard to know.
My cat...when she was placed on Metacam to deal with her interstitial cystitis, her urea levels jumped in 2 weeks. We took her off it immediately. She does have kidney failure progressing, but at that time we did try it. Since then..the plan has changed many times, but it's not an option we'd ever consider again.
Blood tests are our friends...just make sure your doc checks for kidneys, urea, etc.
