Hi everyone,

This is a bit of an OT question, colitis wise, I'm doing great. Remicade has been my wonderdrug!

My question is have any of you experience dark urine associated with your colitis or directly with Remicade?

Mine has been on the darker side for the past 2 days (almost like iced tea colour). Of course a quick google search pretty much has me dying!!!! I'm not panicking yet, but I am watching. I was able to get it lighter twice today with lots of water drinking... hoping I'm just a bit dehydrated and need to flush out system.

If it's worse or not better i'll try to get to a clinic tomorrow. But in mean time, you guys usually have experienced most things... lol,. so figured I'd give you a try.

I did get my last infusion of Remicade 11 days ago.. is it a possible 'normal' side effect?

Haven't changed anything in my diet or routine really. Dont' think its bladder infection as I've had that before and no other symptoms would indicate it...

Any thoughts???

My first thought was dehydration. Another thing is alot of exercise or body stress (break-down of muscle tissue, waste comes out in urine).

If it doesn't get better when you up your hydration, go see your doc as you indicated.

Yeah Dr. Google can be a dangerous place! Lol

Every once in a while my urine will be darker too. I've had it off and on thru the years before Remi. Mine was from dehydration. I increased my fluid intake and things got better.

Id say dehydration is a pretty good suspect since it got better with increased water intake.

Drink up! Water, G2... watered down fruit juice.

Well I just did a quick google search myself. It states that it's rare with Remicade but the doctor should be told when it happens. So I'd call the GI up and let him know.

Also make sure you have your regular blood work.

I hope it's nothing serious. I'm glad you're in remission. You deserve it after you've been through (and everybody on here deserves it :-))

not directly to do with your question but with regards to being on remicade I was told that the body eventually develops antibodies to it and therefore the positive effect on UC wears off. To keep this at bay in the UK they prescribe imuran to negate the anitbody so I would suggest you ask the GI about this to keep a bettere chance of remicade working for you longer

This is certainly NOT dehydration. If its dehydration, urine color will be yellowish or even bright yellow, but never ice tea color i.e. brownish. And even then it will not last for 2 days, if you manage to dehydrate yourself that long.

Are you taking any statin medication? or are you taking any medication than that for UC?
If you are taking statin, don't even bother answering my question, go to urgent care or even ER. You will have to stop statin right away.

If its not statin, I will have a word with GI and get urine tested.
Please update us on what is it finally.

well things seem to be back to normal today! yay!

No nothing with statin.. (or at least i don't think so, not sure what it is to be honest)
