hateuC & 'Conquer UC' - Today I have dropped the sample at the lab. In addition to the stool collected yesterday, today I added little sample collected in the morning which contained blood.
I will update you in another two weeks. Thanks for your words.

Ok, the calprotectin parameter showed up 400 for the stool sample I submitted which contained mostly the bloody mucus and a small stool.
So I don't know what to finalise because the calprotectin was 27 when I was noticing small tiny blood marks on the stool.
So it appears to me that if the disease activity increases this parameter value increases as well.

Interesting. I'm so glad you shared your result. Looks like the test could be promising for disease activity.

I did this test last year when I was starting a MTX study. Mine was in the mid 500s.

How are you doing now Sara?
I'm thinking of doing this test as well, not now because im obviously flaring. But later when im in remission (hopefully).
From your values it seems like it is a good test but perhaps it does not detect early changes that happen before the inflammation really starts.
Also interesting how we can go from zero to one hundred in less than 2 weeks :-/

@Conquer UC, Thank you for asking.
Unfortunately I'm still flaring. Symptoms returned as soon as I stopped Pred. I've been using the Entocort enema since the day I stopped Pred but it just helps a little. Still blood in the stool, cramps and urgency as well.
Calprotectin is a good test to see whether the inflammation is elevating when you are being treated.
It is good to go for it, but the only disadvantage is - it takes 2weeks to get the results.
But looks to me the parameter value suggests whether its time to take Pred.
Its possible to see the sudden rise in the value as that is how this disease is - isn't it?? Silent bomber.
All the best, hope you bring your flare under control.
Take care.

Silent bomber hahah good one. Very true.
Yeh i need all the luck i can muster to get into remission, and say in remission. Because i never seem to stay in it for long enough. Considering 6mp now as i failed the enemas etc.
Hope you feel better soon too. You've been flaring for a while now.

on the day when i had calprotectin test i also had sigmo which showed mayo 0 and i had no symptoms at all. however, my calprotectin results were over 1800 and they exceeded the upper limits. My doctor said she had never seen such results and told me to repeat the test. The next results were about
1000, so GI said that either the machine doing the test had been broken down or simply it is not a reliable test. Some people on the Polish forum had similar experiences and their doctors don't trust calprotectin either.

I have heard that extremely high results for the faecal calprotectin test are meaningless. No idea how common results in the thousands are, but if you get anything that high, then, yes, take it with a pinch of salt.
My GI uses the FC test, and I largely trust his judgement on these kind of things: he at least goes to IBD conferences and reads studies, which is probably more than most GI doctors do. Anyway, the test that I had done before surgery had a reading in the mid-500s: however, god knows what meds I was on at the time. Probably steroids and possibly Humira - I'd have to check the dates.
I had another FC test done in November 2012, but never got the result back from that: the IBD helpline wasn't working, and my stoma nurse said she wasn't allowed to give me the result (even though I requested it: ridiculous...) Anyway, neither IBD nurse was there, so I never got my result. Could try again... In fact I will. When I find out, I'll let you know!
