This is totally random but that is so true so I have to tell it. I saw picture on Facebook and it was a Japanese flag (big red dot) But it also doubled as a pie chart. The title of the chart was "what's going on in Japan." The chart legend showed red was "some crazy s**t."

I know how hard it is to be positive NCOT, it's a bloody struggle like everything else in life and I get where you're coming from...yes the negativity gets to be too much but it is what it is and people can choose not to read especially if the title in your post is reflective of it being a negative one so I don't think you have to leave and you shouldn't feel like you have to either...I think the more therapy sessions you continue to have, the more it will help you (hopefully it will...not all therapists are good unfortunately) but being able to vent at a support forum is also a good form of therapy IMO.

There's also the option of taking breaks from the forum when you're feeling too overwhelmed...but I think for the most part, everyone has something to contribute and everyone can definitely relate to the negativity as well.

I hope you find peace in life very soon, it's bad enough the torture that IBD brings upon us physically, let alone what it does to our mental/emotional state (which sadly is not acknowledged enough by the "professionals").

Yes, IBD does almost feel like the straw which broke the donkey's back. I've had problems with depression all my life: just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, Crohn's came along to remind me it could. Such a crappy disease in every sense of the word. Anyway, I agree about the professionals' lack of empathy: a brick wall would have shown more human warmth than my first GI. My current GI is the only consultant I've met who has shown some sign of trying to understand what IBD patients go through. I told him once about how my anxiety had got much worse: his eyes lit up and he explained to me that he had read a study which showed that anxiety was higher in IBD patients than in the general population. Apparently 36% of the IBD folks demonstrated clinically significant levels of anxiety. My only surprise was that it was as low as 36% and not more like 96%.

But still: at least he was trying to understand. Which is what more than most doctors do.

Things changed a couple on the Crohn's board a couple of years ago. The admin demodded two of the mods without any warning or, apparently, much in the way of explanation. Both the two mods (nanners and ivy6) left the site for good, and a few other regulars followed them. Ever since then, the Crohn's board has never really recovered. It's got much quieter while the UC board has got far busier in approximately the same time span.

This is a bit of an aside, but another thing which I don't think helped the Crohn's board flourish as a community was moderators closing the threads literally as soon as they reached page 3. That always baffled and irritated me. Nowadays, a thread would be doing exceptionally well to reach page 2 on the Crohn's board, let alone page 3, so it never happens anymore. But if by chance the Crohn's board ever does pick up again, the moderators ought to change their thread-closing policy.

Thank you massively for your kind words. I'd like to think there can come a time when I'm not dogged with depression, or the fear of depression returning, with my every step. I would think it would be strangely liberating to have that confidence that you are not going to fall apart at the titchiest setback... :-/

This sounds corny, but I write, poems, journals just basically anything, when I get depressed or upset about something. Maybe you should join a writing site and add some short stories or poems or things like that.
For me, the sadness or the anger or whatever, comes out onto the paper and I can watch it in the ink trailing behind the pen. Then sometimes I share it, sometimes not. But on a site like that you can whine and whatever, most even have subforums just for sad poetry and stories. Just a thought.

Gardner-I was so interested in the "g" in whining thing that I asked the balloon man at a local pizza place (he's my expert in all things English) and he said it the same we do.

stick around....you'd miss us for sure!

Take a break once in a while, don't post or whatever.

Where did you go?? In future, please book your breaks from the UC board in advance; so if you want a 2-week vacation this summer, you'd better apply for it now! <_<

I'm sorry about your cat. 20 years is a good, long life for a cat, but it doesn't make it any easier to lose her :/

If it's any consolation, euthanasia is the fastest, most painless, death imaginable. She won't feel a thing.

Anytime! It's horrible losing a pet. We went through it with our old dog, who was 15 and senile when he was finally put down. I still miss him occasionally :/

The great thing about poetry and sharing stories on writing forums is that it doesn't have to be good, lol. I have a site and am not any good at it, lol.

thanks ncot and pb4....yes...I bawled for the past week and of course yesterday. She died at home Sunday morning around 4. we're relieved she didn't last another day, for the pain was too much for us. She was unconscious for the last 12 hours.

What was always weird is that she got sick on the weekends when there was no vet available...we chuckled that she did it again to us, in true form.

We will miss her forever, she was a unique cat that did the coolest things. Demanding till the end. We'll have her and Quincy's ashes (sans urns) buried in the back yard once the ground dries.

We're relieved and will heal. Lots of memories and pics to see. Twenty years is a long time.
